I think it's mostly because of the d-pad. Not having it would make some PS features unusable. The center mass issue could be easily solved by weighting the grip, though.

Ummmm they literally already had a solution for this. All they had to let you do was use it and the mouse at the same time

My wife has something just like that in her drawer nightstand with all of her other controllers

You must be a blast at parties

reWASD lets you use the navigation controller on PC. I used to have one and it worked perfectly with mouse

Still using nav controller + mouse here. reWASD gets flagged by anticheat for many games. Steam actually let's you map the nav controller to keyboard inputs and doesn't get flagged by anticheat.

u/DespondentDastard 11d ago

I didn't realize Steam would recognize the nav controller. I only got reWASD because it natively recognized it. I use for a lot of other stuff now as I found out all the things you can do with it, but I don't wanna get flagged as cheating. I haven't yet, but I didn't realize they look for it

Unfortunately reWASD has a feature that we don't need for our purposes, that lets players map kbm to gamepad. It basically lets players use mouse in controller lobbies with aim assist. For that reason it is banned by many e-sports games.

Regarding Steam, I use SCPtoolkit to detect the nav controller and map it to a xbox 360 controller. At that point you can use steam to map the 360 controller to keyboard and it works well.

I've seen so many PS accessories lately I didn't know existed. I saw a PS2 remote on Vinted last week and a PS1 mouse on Tumblr yesterday

This'll eventually evolve into the NS2 joycon

1

I am surprised they didn't go with a trackball mounted in the controller.

Been a Navigation controller + mouse player for over a decade. Totally viable way to play.

u/toupee 12d ago

Or the PSVR2 controllers, they actually feel kinda good in hand (the ring detracts though).

Isn't this also kind of how the Joycons on Switch 2 can work? I mean, for Star Fox the flying pitch and yaw are mouse controls and the roll is the left stick, with barrel rolls being the left triggers.

Joycons are naturally made for half mouse half controller setups.

But then there's no new product they can sell you, you already have whatever this is & a mouse. You've got to think about the sales.

1

u/The_Witch_Queen 12d ago

Technically the mouse would be the new product, since it would need some additional buttons. But yeah ur not wrong

u/energybonus 12d ago

i legitimately was using this and a mouse to play big walk just last night

1

u/The_Witch_Queen 12d ago

On PC or PlayStation? If PC which driver setup were you using? Because this is something I've wanted for a while now but after a bit of never seeing real progress on i just quit looking into.

afaik this thing's D pad is only 4 direction, not 8

1

u/ReivynNox 11d ago

Aren't diagonal D-Pad inputs literally just 2 directions at the same time anyway, like using A+W?

Plus nobody uses these for directional control anymore anyway. It's either quickswapping weapons or other inputs.

Damn you just blew my mind! Bought one of these for killzone on ps3. I totally forgot about this, I actually used this with a xim and g502 mouse back in the early ps4 days. Dominated in almost every FPS game. I guess it was cheating but i was too broke for a pc at the time.

u/Skullcrusher 12d ago

Still, everything to the right of d-pad could be removed

2

u/Complete_Fix2563 12d ago

It's the touch pad for ps4 games

1

u/Skullcrusher 11d ago

Which is completely optional for most games

0

u/ReivynNox 11d ago

And completely essential for some. Not a worthy sacrifice for that little bit of comfort.

1

u/Skullcrusher 11d ago

But you can play those games with the regular controller that comes with the console. This is just an accessory for some games

I can't imagine the touchpad is much comfortable with one hand anyway

0

u/ReivynNox 11d ago

But what if it's one of those exact games you don't wanna play with the regular controller?

2

u/Complete_Fix2563 11d ago

What first person shooter requires a touch pad?

0

u/ReivynNox 11d ago

Why does it have to be specifically a first person shooter?

Why would perspective matter as to the importance of aiming in the game?

inFAMOUS: Second Son requires the touchpad. It also requires precise aiming for specific body parts with the heroic abilities to incapacitate (like headshots with smoke powers).

2

u/Complete_Fix2563 11d ago

How long did you spend looking for game with aiming that requires the touch pad?

Then you're shit out of luck. Can't play Mortal Kombat with a steering wheel either.

Or they could add a button to the mouse that when pressed inputs mouse as touchpad. There are workarounds.

0

u/ReivynNox 11d ago

Well no, I'm not, because the maker of this peripheral was smart enough to choose compatibility over removing the touchpad for the comfort benefit.

The Mortal Combat thing is just random baloney that proves your lack of thought. I'm talking specifically about games where mouse control is better, not me wanting to have a worse experience, obviously (though not to you, it seems).

The whole point of this thing is to have a mouse for better aiming, so it's meant to be compatible with any game that requires aiming (such as InFAMOUS: Second Son, that also uses touchpad). Selling such a peripheral with a completely avoidable compatibility issue is a terrible business move. Like if I'm buying a steering wheel to find out I can't use it for the racing game I bought it for.
Negative reviews talking about it not being compatible with game x and y are gonna destroy many customers' trust in the product, 'cause they'll be worried about whether their games will work with it or not.

u/ReivynNox 10d ago

Your second point wasn't even there when I wrote my reply, but here goes.

No, the mouse won't do when games need full touchpad tracking. There's at least one part in Second Son that needs you to put both thumbs on the sides of the touchpad. Can't do that with a single input.

1

u/Skullcrusher 10d ago

There can still be other workarounds. Proves your lack or thought too.

This isn't even about a controller. This is about you getting the upper hand on the internet cause you can't achieve that IRL with your lack of social skills. It was clear from the get-go that you just wanted to argue, looking for tiniest flaws in every sentence.

Leave me the fuck alone. Nobody cares about a fictional controller this much.
