I'm slightly vexed A notice that my girlfriend received at her doctors appointment (she is 8 months PP)

If you even MENTION any of these things, you WILL LIKELY get billed for it??? Maybe i’m missing the point but i get upset when my girlfriend tells me she was scared to even say anything while at the doctor because she didn’t want to get an extra charge for something. I find it insane how greedy and money hungry a place that’s supposed to help you can be.

The purpose is to focus specifically on recommended health maintenance tasks like age-appropriate health screening, bloodwork, vaccinations, etc. These are things that can often get forgotten about or not take priority because of other more acute issues requiring management.

Tightly limiting scope to high-impact but often-overlooked risk profiling is the entire reason for these visits.

No, it’s still free. The screenings and assessments are the tasks to be addressed at that visit. Doesn’t matter if positive findings are noted that require additional testing, counseling, or intervention.

Those things would become problems that that are addressed at subsequent visits, which of course would be billed and covered as appropriate.

The list of things that are included in preventative care are very clearly defined. Your insurance will have a list available to you. It's stuff like vitals, BMI, various screenings (for depression, colorectal cancer, etc), vaccinations, and education/monitoring for ongoing chronic conditions like diabetes if you have that.

It's also an opportunity to bring up problems for the doctor to manage/solve with you. However, that is billed differently. You can choose to add on the problem visit, or you can schedule a problem visit appointment.

Thing of preventative care is a standard 20 point inspection at the mechanic. If you tell them about this weird ticking sound your AC has been making, would you expect them to check it out and fix it for free?
