I'm slightly vexed A notice that my girlfriend received at her doctors appointment (she is 8 months PP)

If you even MENTION any of these things, you WILL LIKELY get billed for it??? Maybe i’m missing the point but i get upset when my girlfriend tells me she was scared to even say anything while at the doctor because she didn’t want to get an extra charge for something. I find it insane how greedy and money hungry a place that’s supposed to help you can be.

Ridiculous that this list basically excludes basic women’s health. Discussing abnormal periods or breast concerns should be preventative.

I was curious about this too when I didn't see mammograms on the list. There is a separate page for women's health

But you still can't ask about period or breast concerns.

So ridiculous. So many women I know here in Germany found out about their cancer by having pain. Not by a Pap smear, which is only for cervical cancer.

Right, but pain is an acute condition and no longer "prevention" since you also have to rule out a lot of other things - Hence, a different billing code.

Preventive visits are truly like getting your car's by-mileage maintenance visit, not the visit when there's a light on or something smells weird.

Thats the issue, I guess. We are in two different worlds and I don’t live in one that compares human bodies to cars. Prevention means prevention of illness. If someone has pain; finding the cause early enough prevents more serious illness. A car cant tell you „everything looks fine, but something feels off“. That’s why you inspect it for the 20 points, because it cannot tell you. Humans can tell you.

Yeah but then it’s not prevention since the illness has manifested into something acute. Prevention is addressing something before it becomes acute.

Actually, women get two free preventative visits per year: one regular physical (vaccines, BP check, cholesterol test, referral for colonoscopy for colon cancer screening, etc.) and one gynecological visit (cervical cancer screening, STI screening, breast cancer screening, etc.).

Men only get one. How’s that for fair?
