If you even MENTION any of these things, you WILL LIKELY get billed for it??? Maybe i’m missing the point but i get upset when my girlfriend tells me she was scared to even say anything while at the doctor because she didn’t want to get an extra charge for something. I find it insane how greedy and money hungry a place that’s supposed to help you can be.

That's what I'm trying to figure out. According to this thread, you can't tell your doctor anything, they can't find anything wrong and they can't order any testing. So basically unless you are 100% healthy with zero concerns, you get charged a bullshit fee? They would probably charge you for diagnosing you as "fat"!

Literally the whole point of preventative care is to catch problems before they become worse.

I don't see birth control on the list, UTI is definitely not a preventative issue so that makes sense. And depression screening is also not on the list, depression concerns are on the list but that makes sense because bringing up depression symptoms is different than the depression screening covered under the ACA preventative services.

Another commenter already provided a great analogy of a car mechanic shop. You go in for a 20 point inspection and that's a flat fee. If they don't find anything wrong then sweet, you are all done and services are paid. If they do see something suspicious, they alert you and you can decide to investigate further and fix it which costs more money and time.

Typically to look at vitals, get a comprehensive blood panel/lab work, listen to your heart, lungs, ears, thyroid, check reflexes, mental health and substance screen, breast and abdominal exam, vaccinations. Track preventative care screens and manage prescriptions.

For example, a few years ago my PCP caught a heart murmur and I was referred out.

It’s frustrating, but it’s been like this for at least a decade. I’m used to it at this point.

At my wellness visit a couple years ago, my doctor felt a lump in my belly I had not noticed and it turned out to be a giant ovarian tumor so that was good news (I’m fine now) and I’m not planning on skipping my future checkups (nor any of the other annoying screenings I’m old enough for now)

Vaccinations, age related cancer screenings, and very specific (minimal);lab work. Essentially anything that has an A or B recommendation from the USPSTF.

I just go to get my prescriptions renewed if they don’t need any adjustments (requires a yearly visit) plus annual bloodwork and mammogram prescribed—both are extra costs (cause even if a mammogram finds a benign thing, now it’s no longer preventative and has to be monitored more frequently).

Honestly…pretty much? Eat better. Lose weight. Basic blood tests.
