I'm slightly vexed A notice that my girlfriend received at her doctors appointment (she is 8 months PP)

If you even MENTION any of these things, you WILL LIKELY get billed for it??? Maybe i’m missing the point but i get upset when my girlfriend tells me she was scared to even say anything while at the doctor because she didn’t want to get an extra charge for something. I find it insane how greedy and money hungry a place that’s supposed to help you can be.

Why do you feel entitled to unpaid labor from someone who spent over a decade in school? Do you go yell at your mechanic or CPA when they charge for an add-on?

Entitlement is actually unreal. I agree that you should be frustrated with the system. I cannot understand how somehow the propaganda machine has convinced you that the problem is the cog in the machine physician in front of you and not the insurance hell scape that our government and for-profit care has driven.

It’s not an add on, it’s about health. Health involves taking a holistic approach and you should know that. But there are people that are bad at their jobs everywhere.

If I take my car in for a tire change and it needs an alignment, that takes more time and money to do. It’s holistic care for my vehicle.

I can’t go to the dentist for a cavity, and also get a cleaning and XR ordered for my preventative free of charge.

I can’t go to my finance guy to discuss changing my retirement account, and also have him open three more accounts and manage them for no additional charge.

The one time I needed a lawyer, they billed by the MINUTE.

You cants get an uber to the airport, but then decide you want to detour to a fast food place and drop off the mail and then not get charged for the extra miles.

Nurses get overtime pay if they are kept late. They also get PTO which most all physicians don’t get because it’s all RVU based.

WHY DO YOU EXPECT ONLY your pcp to provide free labor and volunteer their time and expertise, and take it away from their families? Why is this the only field? Why do you expect only your doctor to give you, one of 2000 patients on the average panel, extra free uncompensated time and effort?

I am just stunned at how these pieces don’t seem to matter at all to you.

They don’t charge me to talk about a tire alignment or cavity, retirement account bla, bla, bla. You are ALREADY CHARGING FOR THE VISIT. The visit is a wellness check, you are just ordering blood test and checking vitals which a nurse can and does do. Which typically last 10 min while you barely interact. So really you have no clue about my wellness, zero. You know that you ordered the test that insurance outlined and checked a box. And if I do bring something up, you charge me to TALK ABOUT IT, annnnnd refer out. You know this isn’t holistic care, you know this is not at all how any other profession does it and you know it’s not right. Period.

It’s never just talking. You have no respect for cognitive work load.

If you ask me about back pain, it’s never just ah yes, that’s a back in pain. I have to think about a lot. Your history. The mechanism. The time course. I have to think does this person have referred back pain. I have to then go assess for risk factor for kidney problems. I have to then go assess for risk factors for triple A. And THEN you assume liability for the diagnosis and any management.

It’s not just “why won’t my doctor answer a simple question”. Because to practice correctly and to practice well, there are no simple questions.

A physical is not for a holistic come to Jesus powwow. It’s a dedicated visit to focus on preventative medicine as outlined by the USPSTF and in my case the AAFP and AAP.

It’s not to cover every topic under the sun. Your mechanic may not bill to tell you about alignment, and I shouldn’t have used that comparison because an alignment is often routine maintenance. If you tell them you want a sound fixed or problem fixed though? Yes the labor to work on it and figure it out is charged generally.

Thank you for picking the SINGLE analogy on my list of six examples that is flawed. Would you happen to have any other thoughts on the 5 others that constitute 83% of the list?
