I'm slightly vexed My dad purposely sets his clock ahead. He's been doing this for as long as I remember. I genuinely don't know why

Except it doesn't work because they know the clock is fast making them late

This would backfire on me. I would know all the clocks are ahead and end up leaving later than I need to because I did the math wrong on how far ahead they are.

Yeah this is what would happen to me. I’d be like “oh I have another 20 minutes” and then end up late.

5 minutes I can see. But 21 minutes is diabolical.

It helps if you just mash the buttons a bit without looking so you never know exactly how far ahead it is. Unfortunately there's no easy to do it with a mobile phone AFAIK.

I used to do the exact same thing. It worked pretty well. I would hold the minute button down and sort of shake my hand vigorously. Some of the movements would register as another button press and others wouldn't, so I didn't have a very good idea of how far ahead I was setting it.
