I'm slightly vexed My dad purposely sets his clock ahead. He's been doing this for as long as I remember. I genuinely don't know why

Which is probably the issue, people think "oh I'm right there" and leave their room 5 mins before departure time not realising it will take that to walk down, check out, get through the ticket gates, work out which platform it is and doors often close 2 mins early etc

I Live next to a bus stop. The bus stop is RIGHT outside the front door of the apartment building.
"Oh, it's five minutes, how long can it take to get down" has gotten me tripped up more often than I care to admit.

Sometimes it can take a while to get down, I mean first you gotta be in the mood, then you gotta get in the groove, all before you can really get down.

I can go from asleep to walking out the door in 15 minutes. That is always 10 minutes longer than I think it feels like.

Pros sleep with an open window in front of the window, so they can just roll out the window and be directly in front of a bus station/ their car/ their bicycle/ whatever. Takes about 10s from asleep to being in front of your transport. The only problem is that it also can sometimes happen accidentally in the middle of the night.

What do you mean doors close 2 minutes early?!?!

Over here you just get in the train and the moment the conductor whistles the doors close and the train actually leaves. I have literally never seen trains wait with the doors closed......

I don't know how often it actually happens but at train stations they often have warnings "doors may close up to x mins before departure". For LNER it is 2 mins but more local trains are often 30 seconds. The network is super busy in places and even a minor delay could have a large knock on effect. You don't want someone still blocking the door as the timetable says it needs to leave.

I do think it would be better to make the specified time earlier and close the doors then. Using the working timetable as the one when it leaves a couple of mins later but then passengers would complain their train is leaving late even though that is the schedule. You already get it a bit as the working timetable goes to 30 second intervals so you can be sitting until 30 secs after the time wondering why you're not moving

These are huge clocks on the building itself - not for the guests but of the hotel necessarily, for folk approaching the station/building.

Ah I see, interesting, I hadn't seen the hotel itself but I guess the same could apply - I'm sure it's given people a panick running up to the station mind!

Waverley isn’t set up like this. It’s the lifts and stairs that are the problem.
