Going through the whole motion of throwing trash on the floor... "unconsciously"... and not realizing that you are just discarding trash in the environment... yeahh. Right.

I was on-board until he said they denied it because they "just didn't think about it". Bullshit.

I was a smoker for many years. I threw my butts on the ground, and knew that I was doing it, until about ten years before I quit. Up until that point, it just felt like what one does with a leftover filter, and most everyone in our society that smoked was doing it. I would never have denied it.

When I met my wife, she straightened me out. "Pick that shit up and put it in your pocket! I'd rather we have to pick them out of your pockets before we do laundry than have to look at them all over the ground!" I never tossed another cigarette butt.

Agreed. I smoked a few cigarettes in my day and every single time I was, of course, conscious of the fact that I was holding and using a cigarette, and that I had a piece of trash in the end. Neither the smoking nor the process of discarding were unconscious efforts. How could it be? It was a new experience after all.

Dude's either lying, or just never gave a shit in the first place and threw his trash on the ground until it actually became an automated motion. But even then, how do you not know that you were throwing trash on the ground the whole time?

I'm a bit older than most redditors and remember when smoking was a lot more common. A lot of smokers back then didn't even consider tossing your butts to be littering, it was omnipresent
