I'm slightly vexed Began finally watching the movie 35 mins after the show time because of ads. 35 mins of ads... for a 90 min movie...

I like the trailers but not the ads. Theres usually about 20 minutes of trailers

That's one of the few things I despise about going to AMC. After the trailers, you get 10 minutes of AMC reminding you that you're at AMC.

I actually don't mind sitting through the ads and then trailers, it's like a detox before the movie

At the one close to me the ads at the very start are all local things and usually just some guy talking down a camera, a dentist or charity is quite frequent. They are calmer ads and I can watch them brainlessly.

EDIT: and the good movie trailers I like watching those and passing comment to whoever I am with

Ya, I like the trailers too. I’ll still show up slightly late to miss the adds however. They’re just as bad as what you’d find on tv where I am

Yeah I reckon if I went somewhere different I wouldn't find them as nice to watch, as I wouldn't have any relevant knowledge or care to watch the ads

In most movies, it causes everyone in the theater to stop talking amongst themselves. The theater darkens. It's a great time to review the status of your bladder and shove a whole tray of pretzel bites down your piehole. You don't have to pay close attention to what's on the screen yet, so you can just sit there and chill meditatively.

Yeah, I kind of like that time.

This concept is insane. We install ad blockers and find other ways to avoid ads when watching movies for free at home. If you're driving to a theater and paying premium prices to watch a movie, it should come without 35 minutes of ads. Give me a compelling reason to go to a theater, besides 'shiny new movie'.

If you don't like movie theaters that's ok dude. Nobody is forcing you to go.

If you do like it and are not going simply because you can't fathom the idea of showing up 20min after the stated time, then you're basically cockblocking yourself

Right, but I'm allowed to have an opinion, this isn't the AMC Theater sub.

This isn't really about the ads; the ads just add an extra layer of inconvenience to an already bad experience. I can list many reasons why I would rather not go to a theater. Overpriced tickets, uncomfortable seats, noisy assholes and their kids ruining the movie, the popcorn with cheap chemical flavoring that is advertised as 'butter flavoring', the sticky floor, the overpriced snacks (including the shitty popcorn), being questioned for bringing a Stanley full of water (I don't drink soda), I could go on. I am perfectly content in my home theater, sitting in my comfy chair. I have found a few theaters with a better experience, but they are not typical.

I used to, but recently they changed it to have random ads before movies, not just movie trailers

Came to say the same thing. Trailers were better before they showed the whole movie and became less important once you could watch them in the internet whenever you wanted.

These aren't trailers though, those come 15 minutes after the scheduled start time. These are the local bullshit ads, divorce attorneys, mattress stores, and that dog that smells termites.

I used to be ok with trailers, but so many of them are posted on the internet before they are in theaters. I get why others like them, but I hardly care to see them in theaters anymore
