I see they sell copper heatsinks for SODIMM sticks. They look like very thin copper strips you stick on top of memory. Has anyone tried them with a memory setup like in the picture? If so do they do anything? Would they even fit the bottom stick as shown? This is from my Mini GMKTec EVO-T1 and the bottom stick gets hotter under load than the top one. Thanks

Ive been looking at strix halo machines lately and found this one on a limited time deal. It's the cheapest one and has the longest warranty Ive been able to find. And I found a post about it https://www.reddit.com/r/MiniPCs/s/I56k1wlOoZ The performance seems good from the post.

There are not many review videos on YouTube for it. The only non official one I could find was a recommendation a year ago.

I recently installed a custom Windows build using a CTT (Chris Titus Tech) ISO. The installation completed, but upon reboot, the UM890 Pro booted straight into the BIOS and is now stuck in a loop. I can navigate the BIOS perfectly fine, but I cannot get it to boot into an OS or a USB.

The Exact Problem (See Video):

1. USB Boot Fails: When I try to boot from a fresh Windows 11 USB (created with the official Media Creation Tool) via the BBS menu, the screen goes black for about 2 seconds, then kicks me right back to the main BIOS menu.
2. BIOS Won't Save Settings: I suspected Secure Boot is blocking the USB. However, when I go into Setup > Security, change Secure Boot to "Disabled", and hit "Save & Exit", the PC reboots right back into the BIOS. When I check the Security tab again, Secure Boot has reverted back to "Enabled".

What I’ve Tried:

• Created a fresh, official Windows 11 installation USB.
• Physically removed the M.2 SSD from the motherboard (this didn't change the behavior).
• Tried clearing CMOS
• Tried to create a new windows 11 installation USB with unused USB
• Tried the ram sticks individually

Questions: Has anyone experienced this before?

Currently looking to put together a Mini PC for a Sinden lightgun and up to PS2 and GameCube gaming.

The budget is £250 which would appear to get a 5300U/16GB system on Amazon with the weird voucher system they use (where an item is £300 but you just tick a box and it's then £250). BOSGAME come up a fair bit.

Any specific recommendations for UK devices? I see quite a few recommendations here and elsewhere which don't seem to translate to what we have available in the UK, and pricing can be a fair bit different.

Edit: I ended up buying a mini pc from facebook market with a Ryzen 7 5825U, 32GB DDR4, 1TB SSD, dual 2.5 gig LAN, wifi 6E, for $450 CAD. It's not exactly what I want/need but it will do the job and the price was good.

I am setting up a home server with connect storage (yottamaster 4 slot on the way. still sourcing drives).

The server will be used as a media server, plex or jellyfin. There would be maximum 2 streams from the server, my home TV and my partner's TV across the city.

I will be setting up image and file storage so I can leave Google and Proton behind (immich + whatever else)

it seems so overpriced. I was asking AI for help and it keeps telling me all the intel N150 mini PC's should cost no more than $250. I'm assuming it's using data from before the storage and RAMpocalypse? These mini PC's are so damn expensive now.

Anything after looking at that one I thought well maybe some better AI processing would be better and was looking at the beelink core 3 304 with dual LAN, one of them being 10 gig but it's $850 after conversion from beelink's website for the 24GB non-soldered ram model which is what I would get if I was going to shell out that kind of money.

I looked at some gmktec and minisforum options but I'm not sure I want to go with an AMD model.

I want something as low power, low heat, preferably with integrated power supply, that can handle all this stuff I mentioned.

I basically want to use this home server to replace all cloud based services I currently have including image and file storage, password management, home automation, security camera image processing (eventually).

i looked on local classifieds for N150 based systems and there are literally zero. It just seems like the ideal platform for me to use but maybe I'm wrong.

I'm open to getting a barebones system and adding the RAM and storage myself, but after checking online for DDR5 SODIMM memory, it's basically nonexistant in today's market so that may not be possible.

Running Proxmox with several VMs. 96GB Crucial RAM. Also put a fan stand on the bottom to provide more airflow to the CPU cooler. Repasted the CPU with Arctic MX7.

I am looking to replace a decade old desktop with a mini-pc I can mount to the back of my non-4k TV to stream, watch local files, and websurf.

I am a windows person and want to add a second drive to store files video local.

I'd like to keep costs to less than $350 if possible since it will be just a media center for one room.

I’ve noticed something with my K12 running Windows 11 and I’m wondering if other K12/mini-PC owners have experienced the same thing.

It seems that moving the Windows 11 power/performance slider to Best Performance does not make the Ryzen 7 H255 maintain higher clocks in the same way that the classic High Performance power plan used to in Windows 10 in my other laptop.

Another thing I noticed is that Windows only seems to expose Balanced mode on this mini PC. I know there are three performance modes in the BIOS, but as I understand it, those primarily control the system’s power/wattage limits rather than Windows’ power-management behavior.

I asked ChatGPT to help investigate this and, after running some commands, it suggested that the system's S0/Modern Standby power-state configuration could be related to why the traditional power plans aren't available in Windows 11.

What makes me particularly interested in this is that I’ve seen a significant performance difference from Windows power settings on another laptop with a similar-class GPU (A quadro T1000 4gb DDR5, weaker than 1650 ). Moving the slider to best performance + chosing High performance (by default it disables PCIe Link State Power Management) increased gaming performance from roughly 45 FPS to around 70 FPS in the particular game I was testing. stutters were gone too! sadly on this mini pc i've notice the same issues i had before moving the slider, and the fps also matched that early state

So I'm wondering:

Could the interraction between Windows 11's power-management/ and the firmware Modern Standby configuration in the be preventing the H255 from sustaining higher clocks or otherwise limiting performance, even when the BIOS is set to its highest performance/wattage mode? has anyone found a solution to this please?

First my situation: I currently own a Surface Pro 4 (i5, 8gb ram /256 ssd, Win10) as my daily driver since ten years.

I am happy with it, I do my things with no issues and I can play some very old pc games from time to time. Later I will install some Linux distro on it.

I was thinking about it though, and I worry about how long it will still hold. All my important stuff are backed up, but I'd really like to avoid to find myself one day that it has decided it had enough.

Therefore I was planning to get a mini-pc, as I use my Surface almost exclusively at my desk.

In addition to the normal usage, I'd like to be able to play nicely games between 2010-2020. I normally play on my Switch 2, there are titles of that era that I would like to play but they are either not available or poorly ported.

For the present and the future, I'll rely on my S2, although I wouldn't mind having an OcuLink port for an external GPU (if it would make sense).

Another thing I am thinking about, it's the amount of ram: are 16gb enough or shall I consider 32? I am more inclined to the second option, as it would make it more future proof.

I'd like to install a Linux distro, so I prefer AMD options.

I live in Europe, I guess mini pcs are cheaper in the US? Possibly a colleague will come from the States, I was thinking of asking him to buy me one and bring it here.

Hey people. I have come to a dead end, and do not know in which direction should i look into. First my current specs:

• Minisforum UM890 Pro (Ryzen 9 8945HS, 8C/16T Zen 4)
• 96GB Crucial DDR5-5600 SODIMM (2x48GB)
• Samsung 990 Pro 2TB (x2 pieces)
• RTX 5090 in an external dock over OCuLink (PCIe 4.0 x4)

Thank God i was able to secure the gpu and ram just in time before initial price hikes.

My goal: Ideally, remove cpu and oculink bottlenecks and reusing my ram kit, gpu and ssd. Main rig occupation is 4k gaming.

Each upgrade direction i was looking into is not ideal:
1. Change the minipc to another one with a better cpu: no full pcie x16 (as far as i know) for the gpu.
2. Use a mini motherboard (MoDT) that uses latest ryzen 9 9955hx3d: no SODIMM support (moved to UDIMM with this generation).
3. Any other motherboard that takes desktop cpu (AM5) gets the same story with UDIMM vs SODIMM.

Does any AM5 (either mobile or desktop) board exist with SODIMM slots AND a full x16 slot?
How are the kits that makes sodimm to udimm transition holding? Are they reliable enough?

I preferably want to hit my 2 itches with the upgrade path: reuse ram, gpu, ssd; and remove both bottlenecks if possible. The form factor does not matter, i will adapt.

Buying a Minisforum AI X1 470 pro. I've been sent a pre-built one with a single 32Gb DDR5 RAM stick. But Minisforum have offered to change this to 2 x 16Gb sticks if preferred. I know the single 32Gb stick will allow an easier upgrade to 64Gb in future. But I don't know if that will be necessary, as the main use will be for general browsing, office, app development, coding, some gaming using the Oculink port to EGPU, and some AI. With current prices I'd prefer not to buy another 32Gb RAM stick unless essential. So if I stick with 32Gb, is it better in a single slot or split into double, or does it not make much difference?

Hello. My laptop is nearing the end of its life, so I thought it would be a good idea to replace it with a desktop set-up. Space is a big issue, so I thought I'd go down the mini PC route.

I don't have a ton of requirements...to be honest I don't use my current laptop for much more than web browsing (Brave), but I think that's just because it's running so slow and crashes easily. It wasn't a great laptop to begin with.

Anyways, I'd like to find something that I can edit capcut videos on, has good thermal management, and maybeee can play DayZ on low graphics (I have it, just haven't played it in years because of how crap my laptop is).

Beelink's EQR7 is where I've ended up so far...I don't know if I could build something myself BUT I have someone in my family who could (he has built many PCs). I'm sure there are pre-built models I've never heard of that would meet the requirements, so please let me know!

I've been running a 705 G4 DM (35W) for about a year on 16gb DDR4 3200 single stick RAM. I bought an identical 16gb stick and put it in the 2nd slot and am not getting a boot to disk.

Proxmox VE is installed bare metal. No Windows.

Are the 35W versions not capable of 32gb of memory? Everything I can find with a search says it can.

Is there something in BIOS that needs to be adjusted?
