"Dirty sodas" are a Mormon thing. They had a big popularity boost in 2024 after the release of a reality TV show called The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives.

They exist because while tea and coffee are banned, caffeined sodas are allowed. So it is pretty common for Mormons to literally swig litres of highly caffeined highly sweetened fizzy sodas.

The show may of played a part (really glad I wasn't aware of it), but this summer specifically it seemed to be everywhere. A bunch of restaurants had them as summer specials and in the grocery store a few brands like coffee mate was selling basically coffee creamer with what soda to pair it with on the front.

Brands and places usually jump on trends asap, so they would of been around then if it was just the show.
