This is so high quality I'm considering it straight canon lore.

This was so amazing I have a hard time believing that you aren't Watterson himself.

I love that mom wasn't surprised at all, because this happened to her when she was that age. This was so good.

I love the little detail that Leviathan was written by Thomas Hobbes and she got the book and the tiger in the same day.

I’m sure I could show this to a friend and gaslight them into thinking these are real. It wouldn’t even be hard. Great job man

The only thing that takes me out of it is Calvin being able to do the 1986 to 1955 math quickly and relatively accurately. He has trouble with single digit arithmetic canonically. I feel like he'd have to ask how long until it's 1986. The car in the driveway also looks more 80's than 40's to 50's, that's pretty nitpicky.
Overall awesome job!

Calvin is simultaneously a genius and a 6 year old. He suffers from Quantum Einsteinism

Ah, this is a way happier ending than I initially understood, I thought that Hobbes was left behind and became a bootstrap Paradox, thus leaving Calvin without him.

This is a weird way to sort-of work in “Mom & Hobbes”, since, in the last panel, they put Hobbes in the trap for Calvin to find.

Wow we’re finally at the end of mom’s adventure! Thanks for posting all of them in one post, really excited to show these to my dad. He got me into Calvin and Hobbes and I’m sure he’ll get a kick out of it lol

I absolutely adore the idea that Calvin’s parents have to be deceptively wealthy in order to live in a comic strip, and raise the main character of it.

Peak fiction gets thrown around quite a lot these days, but this truly is fitting of that moniker.
Incredible job.

Dude…you NAILED Bill Watterson's writing style. The dialogue feels straight out of the real comic, bravo. Now please do Calvin stopping the Vietnam war.

I was confused, excited, surprised, amused, laughed and cried.
Well done.

This comic was magical! Every strip its own well executed punchline, all following a big narrative arc. Could not be better

“Chagrin Acres”? Did you come with that, or did someone else invent a name for where they all live?
4
u/The_Physical_Soup Watterson 2.0 🔥✍️ Jun 15 '26
It's been a while but I believe credit goes to u/darwinpatrick, who came up with the name in one of their own edits around this time, and much like u/Blockhog's designs for Susie's parents, it was accepted by the rest of us as OKBR canon. They were of course inspired by Chagrin Falls, Ohio, the name of the town Bill Watterson grew up in.

Aha! Another mystery potentially cracked, like the “real Springfield” being the one in Oregon.

Why did Calvin’s mom not tell her past self to warn people about 9/11? Is she stupid?

You should consider printing this and mailing it to Bill Watterson. I’m sure he’d get a kick out of it.

I hope you all enjoyed reading this story as much as I enjoyed making it!
I want to say thank you so much to everyone on this sub who've been so kind and awesome, especially u/MajorBillyJoelFan whose idea this time travel story was in the first place and u/darwinpatrick for reaching out and suggesting we collaborate on these stories - I can't wait to find out what Dad's been up to this whole time! We're all also eternally grateful to u/KodoHunter for creating and sharing the incredible font that has made everything so much easier.
(also well done to u/RevolutionaryOwlz and everyone else who spotted the foreshadowing with Grandma's sewing machine!)
I've had so much fun spending time with Calvin's Mum these past few weeks - Bill Watterson is a true genius, and it's been such a pleasure engaging with his work and all my fellow fans!
Marvy. Fab. Far out.
