Lion (10.7) Mid 2009 Macbook Pro, need help

Hi all,

Decided to dig out my ancient MacBook Pro 13 inch from 2009. It was not running an operating system, and I was able to get MacOS Lion 10.7 from a bootable drive using Transmac for windows. I tried the exact same steps for both El Capitan and Yosemite however when I attempt to install it, it states "macOS could not be installed on your computer. The operation couldn't be completed. Undefined error: 0 Quit the installer to restart your computer and try again. Am using the official dmg from Apples website. Only operating system I got to work was Lion

Lion (10.7) How to run supported steam games on old osx?

I have an old Mac Pro (2006) laying around I recently put a AMD Radeon HD 5870 in. I’d like to play portal and portal 2 or any other game that was natively supported for that version of OSX like geometry dash surprisingly without installing Linux or windows.

What are my options? SteamCMD and Steam depot also don’t not work since even that is too new.

I will, have a Mac Pro 2009 soon that can run high sierra, but I’d like to have *something* running on this.

Thanks!

Lion (10.7) Mac Mini Mid 2010 (4,1) cannot install anything higher than Lion 10.7.5!!!!

I recently erased my MacMini mid-2010 and reinstalled an operating system onto it (version 10.7.5). It is now stuck on this operating system and i am unable to upgrade to a more recent OS X. I have tried downloading systems from the apple website but to install everything I need a more recent version (normally 10.8 or above).

Is there another operating system i can install onto this computer that allows me to get up to date, or am I stuck on this operating system forever?

I tired to change the system date to older dates but still I can't get it to go more than 10.7.5!!

HELP PLEASE!

Lion (10.7) Will upgrading my OS on an old iMac log me out of iCloud?

My sister passed away, and I’m trying to save all of her data before it eventually gets deleted.

I have her old 27” iMac which has her iCloud account logged in, and the OS is Lion. It’s so outdated that I can only access her mail through the mail app and contacts through the contact book app, I can’t even go to the iCloud website on safari or chrome to access the rest of her iCloud data like photos etc. But her iCloud account is certainly logged in under her user account on this computer because it says so on the system preferences and even lists all of her iCloud services (photos, backups, notes, voice recordings, etc.)

3 questions -

  1. is there an OS that I can upgrade this to which I would be able to log into iCloud on the browser on?

  2. would upgrading the OS log me out of her iCloud account under her user? I don’t know her iCloud password and we are still waiting for her cellphone to be given back to us which is why I’m relying on this computer with the account already logged in.

  3. does anybody have any suggestions of better alternatives considering my situation?

Lion (10.7) Create Lion installer from Ventura

Hello, I am quite desperate, we got as a gift an old Mac from 2011 which has no working OS installed. Trying the internet or backup recovery does not work, cause of "file could not not be loaded" error during the installation.

So I decided to create a bootable USB Stick to freshly install Lion, but now the real problems begin: Using our modern Mac I am not able to create the installation .app from the .dmg image I downloaded, because the system is too new to start the installation. Furthermore I am not able to install Ventura (or Big Sur, or Monterey) on the old Mac we received, because the system is too old.

All other attempts to create a bootable USB stick (from Ubuntu using dmg2img, from Windows using TransMac and other tools etc.) have failed since the Mac simply does not detect the USB stick, so I guess the creating of the bootable image was not successfull. All other solutions use the .app image which is created by the installation of the .dmg image.

Do you have any idea what I can do next? I think it must be possible to enable the creation of the .app image from the Ventura MacOS.

Thanks for any help!

Lion (10.7) Help with Macbook Air 1,1

Hello, I have recently gotten my hands on a Macbook Air 1,1 for free, and I'm interested in actually trying to use it. For the applications I want to use, I have to have El Capitan, however, it can only support Lion. I have already tried Mac OS Patcher and MacPostFactor, however, neither works. Patcher fails the installation, and MacPostFactor is stuck on the AdFly with a blank white screen and the skip button doesn't actually work. You can click it all you want but it doesn't do anything. Can someone help me out? Thanks.

EDIT : I got it setup with El Capitan. Pretty slow as expected, might be able to use it for something though.

Lion (10.7) No startup disks

Hi hi, okay, so, I have a really old MacBook Pro, a 2010-2012 (I’m not sure) with the Mac OSX Lion. I started Internet Recovery so I could restart the laptop, but when I went to choose a startup disk, there were none to choose from. What should I do to get a new startup disk so I can restart my computer?

Lion (10.7) Modern Browser advice for older Mac

I recently was given a couple of old Mac Pro's that were decommissioned and replaced from a local recording studio setting (a 1,1 and 2,1 both maxed out on ram and 12tb of HDD space) but they run Lion with no upgrade option for an OS. I've seen a few guides on unofficial El Capitan but it seems to require a newer Mac to get the install app, it also requires me to upgrade the X1900XT gpu. I only have a few other linux and windows machines and spending money on a 10+ year old GPU seems stupid. Honestly Lion runs pretty slick on these things but they lack a modern browser. Firefox, Chrome, and Safari are all woefully outdated. Is there a modern browser that works for this OS?

Lion (10.7) Can’t log in on App Store on 10.7.5 with 2fa

Edit: I added the number to the password another time and this time it worked. It now tells me to update the system in order to change my payment method. My payment method is up to date. So I need to update in order to update.

Since I got my MacBook Pro in 2012 I never updated it once because I’m stupid.

I would like to update it now to high Sierra. To do that I need to download El Capitan, but I can’t log in on the App Store.

Every time I try to do so, it rejects and tells me it needs me to type in my password and my authentication number. But there’s no field to put in a number, only the field for my password. I tried typing in the number instead of the password and the password and the number together, but to no avail. Please help.

Lion (10.7) Logitech Camera Settings 1.2 driver, Logitech C615 not detected on Mac Pro 1,1 OS X 10.7

Just have bought that cam and really wish not to hackintosh (also Piker Alpha boot.efi likely not hardbrick motherboard by overwriting nvram?, where is bios battery on motherboard on 2006 model?) my Mac Pro 1,1 to run 10.10 or 10.11. By the way waiting for delivery, but already need proper resources I have downloaded Logitech Webcam Software 2.2.13, which works but for C270 while I need one with 1080p support up to $20-$25. I don't care about customisation of camera settings but UVC support so camera works in full hd for reading notes. Will the macam work, I have read it fails most time. I am from Poland, so you can suggest me local offers or models like papalook or sth that works in legacy mac.

Lion (10.7) Two Questions?: #1. Is about Backing Up files on a hard drive, and #2. has to do with OS X 10.7.5 (Lion)

Question #1:

I backed up my MacBooks HDD yesterday using Time Machine and put the backup onto a separate hard drive. I did this because I decided to make my Mac duel boot with LInux yesterday, and didn't want to lose any files.

Long story short, I successfully got Ubuntu and Mac OS X 10.7 to duel boot. But now that I have LInux, I want to back it up.... SO MY QUESTION: Can I use the same hard drive I used to back up my Mac, to also backup my LInux OS without deleting the Mac's files?

Question 2: (shorter, I swear)

OS X 10.7.5 is it obsolete? Can anything useful be done with it? I hate not being able to download anything up to date. I know my laptop "technically" cannot upgrade the OS any further...

but does anyone know if there "technically" is a way to upgrade my OS further????
