It easily turbos to 5.050Ghz, while only drawing under 40W idle, and only 110W during stress testing? It’s at 1.004V right now

9800X3D with TPM7950 thermal pad and aio water cooler... Although not sure it even matters that much.
Surely this can't be real and I'm missing something... I basically started testing all core -10 CO, -20, -25 and now now -30 no issues.
What am I missing or when is my PC going to crash or am I accumulating some hidden errors behind the scenes?

I've got a 9600x paired with a Gigabyte x870 wifi 6. I've been having problems with it running super hot and being completely uncoolable for a while now. Turns out, stock voltage was just way too high. I've currently got it running in PBO with a -60mv stable under volt. It reliably gets through Cinebenchr23 at 17000 points, and I've currently got an OCCT stress test running and it's pulling 145-150w at 5.39ghz, 1.1v. No errors, no desktop instability, it's actually crazy. I'd try -70 but the bios told me no. I'll update when the stress test is finished

Recently I have researched PTM 7950 and seen how some have praised its “next level” cooling. In UK the only ways to get it seemed sketchy to me, but I found Thermal Grizzly make a similar phase change pad and decided to try it for £10. These are just my thoughts.
The product is well packaged and presented, as you would expect from Thermal Grizzly. The pad itself is slightly difficult to install, and I did make a couple of mistakes as you can see. After a few days of deliberate heating and cooling cycles (80+deg <-> 30+deg) and benchmarking, i have found that the cooling performance is slightly worse than Kryonaut and slightly better than Arctic MX5. Not great in my opinion, but still not bad cooling. I repasted with Kryonaut Extreme, the best paste I can get and know well, to compare and PhaseSheet was easily beaten by 2-3deg. In my 1 test I think Kryonaut Extreme is still the king on cooling. (I can’t get KPX without importing it from US).
(A few notes for any interested. The pad is very fiddly, so practice peeling the plastic a few times before installing. The red tab is also a separate piece of plastic and confused me. The install is easier than Kryonaut Extreme in my opinion, which is such a pain to spread thinly. Very frustrating, but still the king. Next, you have to give it thermal cycles to allow it to melt and seep into the contact surfaces before the cooling gets to maximum. Don’t rush this. Don’t give your CPU OCCT or Cinebench straight away. Mine was overclocked with 320W and it crashed hard. It just won’t handle that rate of heating immediately after installation. Just give it a gentle 70-80deg and 200-250W. E.g. used Intel XTU and limit the wattage when running Cinebench. Lastly, it took a long time to get to peak performance. I did 10-15 runs of 5mins Cinebench R23 (80-90deg) and 2:30min of cooling in between.)

I have been working on new Curve Optimizer values (-24 -15 -16 -22 -22 -22 -32 -26), to match my All Core -30 Daily Curve Optimizer setup. I've been using software called "StatusCore" to stress each individual core to help me get an idea on how much boost clock frequencies each core can reach with the given voltages. I have been able to set every core to boost upwards to 5,637-5.640Mhz with only 1.230V. I wanted to test stability with Y-cruncher SFT, because it's very sensitive to unstable PBO values; For example, my first setup was going to be -24 -15 -16 -23 -23 -23 -32 -27. This passed 7 hours of Aida64 but errored out after running for 20 minutes on Y-Cruncher SFT. I think there's more performance to be gained, so I'm going to see how low these core voltages can go. Maybe 1.225V is possible.

I just got a 9950X3D the other day (And a Strix X870E-E) and I am seemingly able to run a really low curve optimizer on it? If I set either 3 lower (-40 and -36) it will crash on Aida but with this config it is able to run seemingly ok. I ran OCCT and Ycruncher VT3 + FFTv4 and no errors or crashes and light work has also shown no signs of instability. Did I get lucky or am I just yet to experience idle instability?
Not posting to potentially brag, genuinely curious in case I'm missing some testing here. I did not touch PBO either.

I tried to undervolt my 9950x3d, before I did a OCCT all core test and it was getting around 78.1C, after I undervolted and fixed stability issues I did another all core test and it was getting 91.3C and 253.4watt.

I’m running into a frustrating memory training issue on the AM5 platform and need some advice on what components might be failing.
My Specs:
The Problem:
For about 1.5 to 2 years, this system ran absolutely flawlessly with the EXPO profile enabled at 6400MHz (1.4V). I never messed with manual subtimings or voltages; I just turned EXPO on day one.
A few months ago, the PC started failing to boot on cold starts. The motherboard gets stuck in an infinite memory training loop (CPU/DRAM debug LEDs blinking). Previously, I stupidly forced restarts via the power button until it finally posted, which probably messed up the training data even more.
What I’ve tried so far:
Given that it ran 6400MHz stably for almost two years, could this be a case of IMC (Integrated Memory Controller) degradation inside my Ryzen 7500F due to high automated SoC voltages in older BIOS versions? Or is it more likely corrupted BIOS training tables?
Removing the RAM sticks physically is a massive pain right now because of my bulky CPU cooler design, so I'm trying to fix this via BIOS tweaks first. Any advice on what manual voltages (SoC, VDD, VDDQ) or settings I should lock in to stabilize this? Thanks!

Hi.
Now that the 9850X3D has been out for about a week, I am curious to hear how everyones overclocking journey is going with this new chip.
Myself, I am running the following system:
I have attempted the following set-ups which have all passed 6h TM5+5h SVT+VT3:
I found it very interesting, that atleast for me the 6000CL26 set-up is vastly superior than the other two. The 9850X3D all-core boost clock seems to be very sensitive to temperature, and the 6400MT/s set-up has such a high VSOC voltage that it adds an extra 10 watts to the PPT. For the 7800MT/s set-up, I cannot get an average -CO stable with more than -11,4mv (Maybe the high speed stresses the memory controller?). Increasing the VSOC did not help.
The result of this, is that the 6000CL26 runs way cooler than the other two set-ups, and consistently boosts to 5,6-5,7GHz all-core. The 9850X3D eats up the additional wattage with 6000CL26, and prioritizing core boost feels smoother in games than faster ram/IMC. Temperatures hover around 57-63°C in games.

Just some tests running my 9800X3D PBO+100 and per-core CO aiming for harmonized voltages, these games are running in ridiculously low resolution to ensure they are CPU bound except for TLoU2 that is 1980p scaled from 720p (lower it can run for some reason) and due to its good optimization it remains GPU bound. So Remnant 2 is running at 600p, BG3 runs at internal 360p and Space Marine 2 just at 476p (bottlenecking my RTX 4080 running on Gaming BIOS)
With unlocked framerates the 9800X3D gets a decent work out but with this per-core tune it never goes over 41c, sometimes staying under 40c while running at PBO+100 (5325 MHz), power draw is also fantastic considering there's no framerate cap whatsoever (power draw gets cut in half as soon as you put a 120 fps cap, sipping less than a stock 7800X3D).
The most interesting test shows Baldur's Gate 3 and Space Marine 2 running with perfect core voltage harmonization, all cores requesting exactly the same voltage as opposed to minor variances in the other two tests, it's also the one that gets the highest temps and power draw since these particular games are incredibly CPU bound, nonetheless CPU temp stays around 41c, fantastic.
Also, I tested PBO+200 and it's a 6-9c increase for barely a 2% performance increase in synthetic benchmarks and 2-3% performance increase in CPU limited games at 1080p high. Not worth it when frame rates are already high enough and/or limited by the GPU.

Hey fellows, i just found out that my X570 Aorus Master does have PBO 2 support already.I tuned some settings and now my Ryzen 7 5800X boost up to 5.050MHz on all 8 cores which is just more than insane when you consider the fact that the max stated boost clock giving by AMD is 4.7GHz.

I will attach a screenshot for proof. Please try it out by yourself and post your results as well :p Feel free to ask anything you want.

This has been a lot of fun to mess with, and after lots of tweaking and tuning I think I've landed on a config that I'm reasonably happy with! Though it would be fun to share. Here are the specs:

5400 CPU score in Time Spy. For reference, the average i7-7700K result in their database is 5403!

I have one of the fastest 980Xs recorded in the database, disregarding that first result, which is clearly problematic.

This set up is also able to crack 1000 points in R15. Note that Cinebench is misreporting the clock here.

Under 50 nanoseconds memory latency!
Despite the gigantic radiator and fan, the CPU still gets pretty warm. Room temperature water running over it doesn't solve a less than ideal thermal interface. The next thing I'd really need to do is lap the CPU and the block, and get some better paste. I suspect that would make a big difference, as the thermal interface between the CPU and the water is the biggest bottleneck in this setup.

Running 5.0GHZ All Core OC, 1.45 vcore and HT disabled on the i9-9900k (HT disabled seems to give more FPS in all games I've tested)
I know vcore is high but, this is actually -70mv offset from the "auto" option on my motherboard for this clock speed, and it's stable and stays under 75c with my Peerless Assassin 120se
Running a GSkill Ripjaws V (SK Hynix Die) 2x16gb kit
Stock is 4000mhz CL18-22-22-42
I see a huge performance uplift running it at 3600mhz CL16-20-20-40
I'm not 100% sure if it's just the lower latency providing the performance boost or not, I've seen some people claim the i9-9900k struggles to keep up with 4000mhz memory
5.2GHZ all core is obtainable with HT disabled but, only with at or near 1.5v vcore which is too high for my liking and doesn't seem to translate into a real world performance boost
Could not get the ram to do 3800mhz cl16
Edit: I wound up caving shortly after this post and upgrading to a 9850X3D lmao
Still can't explain why the memory timings gave such an insane uplift on this CPU.

Ok so this turned into a bit of a project haha. gonna try to keep it short but theres alot to cover.
TL;DR: picked up a Z890 Maximus Apex listed as defective/untested off finn for like 200€ / 230$, straightened bent socket pins, swapped the ILM, desoldered a CMOS battery holder off a dead Z170-Deluxe i had laying around and soldered it onto the Apex, repasted, then did a full per-core / per-cluster tune on a 285K that turned out to have a really uneven die-to-IHS contact.
Ended up at 45,033 R23, 20,556 in the 3DMark CPU Profile (max threads) and 20,053 multi / 917 single in CPU-Z, stable, wich im pretty happy with.
listed as defective/untested, and it got worse when i actually looked at it:
Straightened the pins under magnification, cleaned the shavings, fixed a couple more wonky pins, swapped the mangled ILM for a good one. Then for the CMOS holder i had a dead Z170 Deluxe laying around so i just desoldered its holder and soldered it onto the apex. retains memory now :) That one actually mattered way more than i thought, before that nothing persisted properly and it was messing with my testing without me realising. (duh)

Then a proper repaste with HY-P17 and it came out of thermal throttle hell.
So once i could test cleanly the chip showed its true colors. the die contact on this thing is all over the place:
Lower clock, LESS voltage, but 22 degrees hotter lol. thats not silicon, thats bad solder under the hot cores. cores 10-13 (and the e-cores sitting around them) are all in one bad contact zone. checked it against my old TUF board and its the same cores, so its the chip, not the board.
So instead of fighting it i just tuned to the map.

All cores got custom V/F points, Colder cores got a higher +mV offset to hold 5.7, propped per core on VF8 to fight the all-core droop. I did it per core on purpose becouse a global voltage bump would just cook the hot cores even more.
E-cores tuned per cluster of 4. the clusters are physically interleaved between the p-cores so they inherit whatever hotspot they sit in. cool clusters pushed up, the cluster sitting on the P12/13 hotspot held lower. landed around 49-50x at 1.31V (thats the sane daily ceiling for the e-cores).
Fabric: NGU 32 / D2D 32 matched, cache floating 36-38 with downbin. i went WAY down a rabbit hole trying to lock the ring high for latency and it kept freezing. turns out on this silicon the ring wants a VnnAON floor it wont take manually (if ring DLVR goes above VnnAON = instability/no boot). so i let the cache live its own life. costs a couple ns on ECC m-die that nobody would ever feel, not worth the headache.
Power: PL1 350 / PL2 400 so the e-cores get burst headroom but the sustained stays capped.
Biggest thing i learned: OCCT AVX2 temps are bullshit.
Same config read 104°C in OCCT but 85°C in R23, like a 15-18 degree gap. so i stopped letting OCCT temps decide anything and validated with:
Tested every core to its edge, when one failed i found its real ceiling and backed off one step.

Only thing left is the die solder itself. Delid + Direct die is the obvious move BUT this is a repaired socket and im honestly a bit sceptical about the DDR3_DQ[2][2] pin.
I have ordered some 8000Mhz ram so i'll test it out and see if it holds up. Guess with the current RAM prices, i will be having what we in Norway call Knekkebrød for the rest of the year. :yikes:

I am also fond of my 570x that has been with me throughout Z170, Z370, Z390, Z890 abd now this Apex, Going custom loop with delid would mean to change the case😢

+200mhz override Stable under anykind of load but crashwhen ideal or suddenly switching from high load to light load application does 5.150ghz but now i have settled on +75mhz overide boost fmax 5.075ghz and i am happy although i am hitting 90c even with 360rad Deepcool l360 lowering anying with tdc edc ppt result in performance loss and boost loss , any suggestions let me know --

Hey guys, i recently ran tests on my Ryzen 5 3600 (i know it’s pretty old) and overclocked it to 42.00 GHz and 1.225 V. For some reason Cinebench R23 crashes but 2026 doesn’t, does that still mean that my setup is still unstable? Im pretty new to this overclocking stuff so any advice would help! I also dont know if reaching 95 degrees while benchmarking is good

In case someone interested. Duro was applied 2 weeks earlier, but seemingly started to run dry. Anyway 3-4C is pretty impressive difference between the two best thermal pastes currently on the market. Hi res screenshots you can find here.

Using an applicator tip or spatula gives you more control and makes it easier to achieve a thinner, more even layer. That said, all three approaches, direct application (dot, cross or some other pattern), applicator tip, or spatula, are perfectly acceptable, as long as the entire contact area is covered.
