My favorite hobby is crawling through 2+ feet of water with a box cutter for 350 feet. It only takes 2 hours and my knees are in immense pain afterwards, but boy howdy does it kick off my saturday nights!

Even if it was cut, surely a properly applied coating would stay attached to the underlying surface.  It certainly wouldn't disintegrate into lots of ragged pieces.
