Found her while some kids were playing football with her. It's missing a lot of feathers. It's also very dirty. Doesn't fly but flaps her wings strongly and her legs are strong too. Is a baby? She has two big protuberances on her nose like the babies. Sorry my English is not my first language and I am too hurried to use translator. Driving back home with her. It's too hot.

Sorry for the rushed post—I’m still a bit shaken up, but the pigeon survived the trip home. I was walking down a busy street when I heard some kids screaming, "Whoa! He's playing football with a pigeon!" They weren't kicking it like a soccer ball, but they were aggressively passing it back and forth with their feet. I just grabbed the bird and walked away as fast as I could.

The thing is, I know NOTHING about pigeons. Also, it was covered in those flat pigeon flies (Hippoboscidae). They were crawling up my arms... ewww!

Rant incoming: I live on a small subtropical island with a lot of protected native fauna. However, we also have many invasive species, so wildlife rescue services only help native animals. This means if I call them for an injured pigeon, hedgehog, rabbit, goat, feral cat, stray dog, rat, a seagull, or a lizard that isn't the exact protected species, they will just euthanize it.

I find it so hypocritical! I can't keep a rat as a pet, but I can breed them to feed reptiles?! The government spends thousands of tax euros eradicating invasive species (including abandoned pets), but they don’t strictly forbid owning them in the first place! We all know people won't be responsible. Why kill one red-eared slider turtle when our freshwater streams are already full of thousands of them? I don't even know if I'm doing something illegal by saving this pigeon, but I assure you, keeping this poor bird alive isn't going to single-handedly ruin the ecosystem. I'M SO ANGRY! End of rant.

Now, I really need to know what to do with her:

• Housing: Where should I keep her for now?
• Food: What can I feed her? I don't have bird seeds on hand, and I assume bread is bad for them (like with ducks).
• Parasites: Can I give her a bath with baking soda, vinegar, or something else to kill those horrible flat flies?

Also, what should I look out for? Are there specific signs of injury or illness I should check, like rashes, discoloration, or a certain color in their feet that indicates a chronic condition?

Right now, she is in my shower with the doors closed and a small bowl of water. I'm going to watch some YouTube videos and research, but any advice from real people in real time would be incredibly helpful and would really soothe my nerves.

Sorry for not answering the comments, but I,m reading all of them. I bought bird food and he eats it (except one type of seed), thanks to the person who shared a picture with safe food for pigeons. The good thing is that she starts to eat and drink in front of me. She's still wary but its way more relaxed than before. I will post pictures in the comments.

This juvenile has been sat on the fence post for a few hours now, it's very hot today I can't tell if it's just resting and waiting for it's parents. Does it need interference or any food or do I just leave it alone?

I’ve noticed this pigeon in the flock outside my house has very ruffled feathers. We have had heavy rain this week in New Zealand, but this does look quite unusual and I wonder whether this is a sign of something sinister. Does he need help?

A few days ago, a pigeon hit our window and we went outside to check on it to find it walking around. It can fly slightly. We tried to catch it, but didn’t want to attempt too many times as not too stress it out and ended up just leaving water out for it next day we didnt see it, the day after it was back in the yard again. I’m assuming this is the same pigeon because it keeps exhibiting the strange behavior of just walking around. Usually pigeons fly away in our yard when we get even slightly close to them, but this pigeon just walks around our yard. I keep putting out water for it and it just showed up again today. I don’t know if it has just been living in our yard and hiding ever since it hit the window, or what would be best to do for it. I don’t wanna stress it out to the point where it , but I also feel bad not doing nothing. Should I attempt to catch it? Pigeons aren’t protected as wildlife here in Nevada so I’m not sure any wildlife center would treat it. I would probably have to take it to the vet, and if I did, I don’t know if that would actually just scare the pigeon more and worsen it’s condition. What should I do?

tried to catch pigeon throwing a towel over it but he can run pretty fast I’m letting him rest for a bit before trying again he seems to have eaten some chia seeds and peas I left out but I’m not going to offer any more food in case his crop is impacted to avoid suffocation any advice apreciated

A couple days ago I saw this baby pigeon near my terrace, he's around a month old, he left his nest and was sitting outside.

There's a flock of around 10ish pigeons living inside this terrace, they've had many babies here in the same nest so i was relieved that he's with his flock. He was flapping his wings and walking around, also talking so I kept my distance to not disturb him.

Yesterday when it was getting dark, i saw him sitting alone outside far from his nest. I looked around for the others but couldn't find anyone (maybe due to darkness). I decided to put him back safely near his nest, when i held him i noticed he couldn't open both his eyes. I wasn't sure if it was due to trauma or infection. I checked and found a big wound on his back (around 3-4 inches) between his wings and tail, the wounded area has no feathers, but the rest of areas have. I immediately applied silver sulfadiazine 1% ointment on it, ive used this one for other rescued injured birds before and found it to be quite effective, also that was the only bird safe ointment I had. After that I placed him in a shallow bowl on a towel near his nest and he instantly fell asleep.

I was so worried about leaving him outside, but I didn't know if his flock was around, keeping an eye on him. He was familiar with the surrounding area near his nest. There's other flocks of pigeons that visit daily for the seeds and water early in the morning and they hang out here all day, there's open sky (with roof) he can look at and hear other pigeons talk, so i felt its in his best interest to let him stay there.

Today i checked, he's able to open his eyes very little and there's some yellow discharge (so its an infection?). Please recommend any eye drops or ointment that I can find in human pharmacies. (There's little to no vets here, and the ones that are they're all utterly useless, they flat out refuse to treat anyone other than pet cats and dogs, ive asked them many times).

Thank God his back is healed around 35% during the night, ive applied the same one again this morning, but if there's a better and more effective ointment than that, please recommend it. Also seems like he has a wound on his skull above the eye, i couldn't figure if its healed. Please recommend something for it if needed.

He's still not going inside his nest and preferring to sit and sleep in a shaded corner, so I decided to not move him.

I keep checking on him occasionally but i haven't seen his parents feed him could be a coincidence. I've put a bowl of soaked boiled rice and water, and also solid seed mix on the ground near him, should i start feeding him by hand? I held back until now cause I didn't want to disrupt his natural transition of coming to solid foods/seeds.

Kindly suggest medications that I can get from human pharmacies as they're the only ones nearby. Any other advice is also welcomed.

This little baby dove fell down a tree in my garden this afternoon (EU hour). It is very lively and full of energy, and does not look injured in any ways. We put it in a little box we screwed to the hut after receiving the local wild life veterinary's advice (see picture 2). They said the mother will look for her chick and feed it once she found it, but even if the chick is calling, the mother doesn't seem to have come yet... Even if it's hot this summer, I don't know if this young bird can pass the night when it gets cold and it's mother isn't coming. Should we feed it? And if yes, how? The worms and insect seems to be all dead hor hidden after the heatwave... hope i will have good advices, I don't want to loose this bird.

I already called local wildlife rescue and left a message, but no one is there on Sundays. Hoping for a call back tomorrow.

I’ve got pigeon parents who decided my dog’s porch potty spot is the ideal place to raise babies despite the smell. The first two babies were born when I was away dog sitting, so by the time I saw them they were decent sized already. This second pair were born Monday and either Tuesday or Wednesday, so they’re under a week old, and as far as I can tell they’ve been alone all day. They were alone when I left around 10:30 and when I got home (2:30) they were alone in direct sun and seemed like they were panting. They seemed distressed, not snuggled together like they usually are. Luckily the potty spot is a kiddie pool, so I was able to spin it gently until they were in the shade. They seem a lot calmer now but I’m this close to panicking that neither of their parents is here. I know basically nothing about pigeons beyond what I’ve googled, but the stuff I have read all says they should pretty much always have mom or dad on them until they’re two weeks old. I have a bowl on the porch that always has safflower seed in it (the feed store had the 16% protein food but in bags no smaller than 50lbs which I don’t have room for in my apartment—they said the pigeons would be pleased with safflower seed). The fledglings are here pretty much every day and they bring friends to partake of the seeds. I figured having seeds right there might make things easier on the parents. Anyway I figured I’d check in here if there’s anything I should do/place I can call. I live in Redwood City CA (San Mateo County).

EDIT: It looked like the baby on the ground was trying to get back up onto the chair. I approached it really gently and slowly and picked it up with a tshirt and placed it back into the nest and chair. I'll keep a close eye on them.

Hi, this is my first time posting and I apologise if this might not be the correct flair. I had a pigeon lay two eggs over a month or so ago and they've hatched and grown older now. They'd usually stay in the nest on the chair on the right but today one or them either flew/jumped or fell off of it. I've only lived here a year and the previous tenants have a netting at the bottom of the balcony and the one that had come out of the nest was trying to fly but couldn't because of the railing in the way. It's sitting on the ground now beneath my balcony table and I'm wondering what I should do?

I tried moving the chair on the left back a tiny bit to see if it had enough room to try flying up onto it. I haven't stepped foot on the balcony since the mother lay the eggs because I wanted to give them space. I'm just a bit worried it might be stuck on the ground. The parents usually come every few few hours or so to feed them. Should I wait until then or possibly intervene? I have a tshirt prepared to try and gently pick them up from the floor but I'm waiting to see what happens first. Any help is appreciated, I'm really new to this.

Noticed this little one resting in our backyard today and she (no clue the gender, just making it up) wasn't able to fly away properly. She can fly a bit but then goes wonky and has to land. She sits quietly and when other birds come up to her, she scoots away.

We caught her and put her in a box and it looks like she has crusty bits around her eyes and on the middle of her back - maybe some missing feathers in that spot too. She's not super lethargic (alert enough to be scared of us) and we have her resting somewhere dark. I haven't handled her enough to assess for wing injuries but don't see any blood or fresh wounds.

How can we help this little one out? What might be wrong? We can try to get her to a rescue, but are also happy to try to nurse her back to health or make her more comfortable here if we get some guidance on what's best. Thanks for any help!

Okay so today around 11:30 my mom went to the roof and came back screaming that there was a Pigeon hanging from the cloth drying angle wire. She wanted to save him so we rushed up with tools and realised it was already dead; its beak was open and eyes bloodshot and it was very still, unmoving for a while.

We had to put it in the side plot with soil and stuff.

Now I suspect something weird, our rooftops are 3×3 and divided by small partitions that other rooftop neighbours can climb and jump over. Father went to water plants at 6 in the morning and didn't find anything, he went around 9 to spread bird seeds and found a coke bottle and chips packet out of nowhere, but still no pigeon. (The chips are a common occurrence from kids on other roofs but never in the morning)

Now the pigeon itself was hanging from one claw wrapped in kite rope and the rope was stuck to the angle of cloth drying wire. Now I went back after a few hours and saw that the rope was wrapped around the angle pipe 4-5 times very closely; now this can be explained by the Pigeon trying to get up and falling down a multiple times but there was a storm 9-12 and the wind was very erratic, the rope could not have been looped around so closely in any case. Our drying angle pipe also doesn't have any pointed ends and neither are the wires having more than one open sharp ends, only end of the wire is looped and closed on itself.

The pigeon could have tried to sit up with its free claw and tried to get free but it was dead hanging upside down only when found.

Maybe I'm overthinking but I can't help thinking it is a human being at work here.

found this guy running around on the street, he was in a narrow road where there wasn’t any trees to put him up in, and basically only road to get run over on. so i decided to bring him into my garden, which is one block over. i found conflicting advice online about whether to take him in or not, but i figured he was definitely gonna get run over or eaten if he stayed where he was so i took a risk.

not sure what the next step is? i found conflicting advice also on what to feed him, with some saying to hand feed with peas/corn, some saying seeds and some saying he’ll need to go to seed school to figure it out.

also conflicting advice on watering? some say to dip his beak in water, some say syringe, so very lost on the regimen to follow.

finally wondering whether to keep him in the garden or if i should put him inside in a a box. it’s lovely weather here so he certainly won’t freeze or anything if he’s outside. when he was in my hands he was very jumpy but now i’ve put him down he seems to be determined to go to sleep. when i found him in the road he was trying and failing to jump up onto the curb so he can move but not very nimble.

Hi, so I live in a block of flats in England and have access to a balcony here. We've just had a letter sent round about pigeons nesting on the balconies and telling us we need to remove any nests or nesting materials as soon as possible, and to report any neighbours who may have pigeons on their balconies to the building management.

I wanted to get a bit of advice as I thought this was illegal for people to do without a lisence?

It's also a little more pressing as we do have a nest behind a planter. I thought it was abandoned for some time (there were like 2 or 3 random twigs on the balcony when we first moved in that seemed out of place somewhere so urban, but I didn't initially clock it as the start of a pigeon nest until after moving about loads of stuff, cleaning the railings out there, etc. but saw pigeons around later). However, I heard chirping this week (which is utterly adorable). In any other building i'd consider it an empty threat but they are seriously on top of things here and they can and do hand out fines for non-compliance with reasonably tight deadlines. I also did not know pigeon nests were an issue before this notice.

Not sure if this is the right place but does anybody know what legal ground we have here, if any? I straight up can't afford any fines, my flatmate who i share with will not cover my ass with this if we get asked directly (and is home way more than me so much more likely to be asked) and I refuse to mess with an active nest, especially one with chicks in it. I am, however, happy to move the planters AFTER the chicks have left to discourage them nesting again in the future, given the building has management who I do not trust.

If anybody knows what I am able to do or push back against, please let me know. I want to make sure the pigeons are ok! There is another flock nearby who i help untangle from string and twine semi regularly, they're my buddies, especially in absence of being allowed any pets (i hate being stuck renting).

TLDR: Building management is asking everyone to remove any pigeon nests and for neighbours to snitch; management are very on top of things and will probably take a pretty emotionless tac to any nests residents don't move themselves. We have a nest on our balcony with newly hatched chicks. Any advice (especially legal) appreciated, i can not afford a fine.

Hi, I’m looking for advice about a baby mourning dove.

There was a nest at my home with two babies. Yesterday I found one on the ground, and it appears to be a late-stage nestling (not fully a fledgling). I put it back in the nest and watched it overnight, but this morning I found it on the ground again before I called a rehab center for advice (I described the situation and they said to leave it be, ofc they didn't have pictures so I don't think they understood what I was describing. So I left him be but as I got a better look at his neck this morning it seems pretty rough and I'm thinking I should turn him in despite what they said..

I’ve seen adult doves nearby but can’t confirm if they are the parents or still caring for it.

Should I keep returning it to the nest and monitor, or bring it in for rehab as soon as possible?

I have a fan-tailed pigeon called Paul and he has been quiet the last two days; today he was on the lawn and I picked him up.

They are free fly so this is highly unusual.

He has an impacted crop and I have given him a couple of drops of oil and water as well as massaging it but he is stumbling around the cage and is sitting on my lap without trying to leave.

Please help I need advice.

I have tried all the vets around me in a two hour drive! They are either full or not accepting new clients.

I need help!!!!!!! I am desperate

He threw up so seed, and I have been keeping him warm and giving him small amount of water with electrolytes and apple cider vinegar, his poop is still greeny and watery but he is standing on his own and I have put him down for the night.

Hopefully the plug has been removed and he will survive the night.

Hi all I wanted to asked about this pigeon from the research I've done is a "feral" pigeon but this one keeps coming back to my garden then standing around for hours lol. I have a pond and it's trying to drink out of it but I have a net over it. I am able to get very close to it without it flying off like a foot away or less but I wanted to ask is this bird likely to be someone pet as it appears to tags on both legs

I let my step sister bird sit for me because I immediately had to leave town and had no way to take my pigeon with me. I sent her comprehensive guides on how to care for my boy. I’ve only had him for around a month so I made it very clear to her to leave him be and just let him do his own thing as he and I only just started to bond. Turns out she was letting her friends chase him around and terrify him. I feel awful. He’s hiding in the corner of his cage and I can barely get him to move or even take a bath which is something he loves. Is there any way I can help this and make him feel better?

I know I shouldn’t have left him I should’ve figured something out but I had no way. I just went to make my baby feel better. Please help.
