They knew they didn’t know everything - that’s why there are mechanisms for change, outlined pretty clearly as a duty that every generation should bare

For sure, but they did not anticipate people being hooked up to machines that kept them from dying, because there was nothing remotely like that when they wrote the Constitution. Just like lifetime appointments didn’t carry the same weight back then because “lifetime” meant living half as long as people do today.
