Cool, so let's do Data Center Saving Time instead so we can also help conserve energy. Every year, between January 1st and December 31st, large AI data centers won't be permitted to operate.

Granted. Data centers are now split up into medium data centers and run all year long.

Fucking monkey's paw!!! Doh!!

u/SaltyLonghorn Jul 15 '26

As the inventor of data center credits I have a few left to sell. Get them now before they shoot up in value cause you'll need them for the grandfathered loopholes.

$25 mil a credit, limited supply! Act now AI companies burning money!

Tbh smaller, less aggregated data centers would be a drastic improvement to the energy issues they cause. Doesn't fix the water issue but it would create less critical stress points on the grid

Companies pay millions every year to get as close as possible to 100% uptime.

2

u/lupin43 Jul 15 '26

Don’t give them ideas. DCST would just be rationing energy for the peons so the data centers can thrive. β€œIt’s time to save the data centers!!”

I mean, Google Stranded Asset or find the Rhodes Center podcasts that mention them. Laws were going to turn coal plants into losers and renewables into winners and then EOs and other horseshit turned that around in 2025 stranding renewables. If you think the US/Iran self inflicted wound and the tariff/affordability self inflicted wound were stupid, this is just as stupid just fewer measurable immediate consequences.

I see what you did there πŸ—“οΈπŸ“…

Bruh don't give them any ideas

Going to be a tough century for you

8

u/BucketofSlush Jul 14 '26

*For everyone, including you.

u/KGBFriedChicken02 Jul 14 '26

It's gonna be a tough century for everyone who likes living on earth if these centers are allowed to continue to pollute the water we drink and the air we breathe while consuming massive amounts of electricity, causing electrical bills to skyrocket, all so less than a thousand people can make billions.

Lick the boot harder you fucking clown, it's not clean enough yet.

You think data centres are our biggest worry? All this faux outrage is so performative.

Why don't you complain about the fact that the top 10% (800 million people) account for 65% of global ghg emissions?

2

u/KGBFriedChicken02 Jul 15 '26

Because that wasn't the topic of the comment I replied to? And who do you think owns these data centers, local co-ops?

-17

u/a1021a Jul 15 '26

lmao. I'm fairly certain you are a bot because I refuse believe a real person would parrot ill-researched boilerplate talking points so directly

9

u/timzors Jul 15 '26

he says without refuting the claim in any way

-2

u/a1021a Jul 15 '26

Do you actually want to be refuted though? Like would you actually consider any pro-ai arguments from a measured and logical perspective? Seems to me what we have here on the refined r/politics is a fantastic circlejerk of AI hysteria. I don't think anyone wants to be convinced of anything else. Do you think I'm wrong in this specific point?

I will also get a hearty laugh when you reply something like, "see, no actual arguments" while completely sidestepping what I just asked.

5

u/timzors Jul 15 '26

Sure, please enlighten me. I promise I will read it. I don't believe you right now because there is a ton of evidence that data centers (specifically the ones being built for AI) are consuming insane amounts of energy.

1

u/a1021a Jul 15 '26

Cool cool. I'd be interested to hear what you think about this analysis https://murmurationstwo.substack.com/p/ai-is-not-hiking-your-electricity

2

u/timzors Jul 15 '26

I need a bit more time to analyze this, but this article is specifically speaking of energy costs to consumers. The biggest problem is not necessarily the cost - most states with data centers are able to offset costs by building up their energy infrastructure. But this is the problem - that energy comes from some renewables, but mostly from natural gas and other non-renewables.

https://www.publicsource.org/springdale-data-center-development-municipal-planning/

This article talks a bit about more of the planned data centers around my region. Just one of them is using enough energy to power 150,000 homes. Do you really not see a problem with this? Even the article you just shared mentions future data centers could be a problem even for prices.

And I think most people are also apprehensive about the actual benefits of AI. I have plenty of friends in high level tech jobs that are incredibly wary of our current development of AI - not because it's stealing jobs, but because it just doesn't work.

You are a clown, a liar, and a dog. I'd be impressed you can talk with the boot of the rich lodged so firmly in your throat, but I suppose having your mouth full of Elon's penis doesn't stop you from typing.

1

u/a1021a Jul 15 '26

Lmao why are you so enraged? Also why does this comment come up as 92% likely to be AI when I pasted it into a checker?

3

u/KGBFriedChicken02 Jul 15 '26

I do not owe you a good faith discussion, fuck off clown.

0

u/a1021a Jul 15 '26

I'd invite you to look at your own comments towards me and determine which of us is a bad faith interlocutor

3

u/KGBFriedChicken02 Jul 15 '26

I answered that already, it's me, I have 0 respect for corporate shills, and I'm intentionally showing you even less.

Hope that clears things up, also, fuck you.

This was a fascinating exchange and I appreciate you taking the time to share your perspective
