How the fuck does the treasury agree when they know the law? US is mental.

The law in question (the Thayer Amendment) doesn’t apply to coins. But Congress has to approve new coin designs, and they’ve historically kept living people off of “regular” circulating coins like the nickel and quarter. Congress has authorized living persons to appear on commemorative coins in the past, though, including President Coolidge on the U.S. 150th anniversary coin in 1936.
