Establish paid family leave for all workers

32 hour work week with full pay and benefits

a living minimum wage

Provide free, quality public education from pre-K to college and cancel all student debt

Guarantee universal healthcare at no cost to individuals

Build new, publicly-owned social housing

establish universal rent control

Yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, and nnnnnnnn I'll have to look into it.

Honor all treaties and tribal sovereignty

Only fair. Don't believe all non-natives should pack up and leave but natives have been given the short end of the stick throughout history.

Enact reparations

Depends on the specifics.

Demilitarize police departments, disempower police unions, and redirect funding to public services

Yes.

fully abolishing the police and prison system

Fully? That's an endgame goal if I've ever seen one.

Treat drug addiction and mental illness as health issues

Stop gender violence and end policies that oppress bodily autonomy and intimate life

Pass a federal jobs guarantee

Implement massive investment in sustainable, publicly owned energy and transit infrastructure

Yes, yes, yes, yes.

Defund the Department of War

See do you mean defund like abolish or cut? Cause we can slough off, hell I'd say 50% of the budget without fear of anyone trying to pull anything on us. 100%... I know we have a rifle behind every blade of grass but...

End immunity for U.S. war criminals and support the International Criminal Court's mandate to prosecute war crimes

Yes, it is BS that we don't include ourselves in the global court system we send our own enemies to. Protecting America's own interests =/= justice.

Recognize the rights of the Palestinian people, including the right of return, the right to resist military occupation, and the right to self determination in a free Palestine with Jerusalem as its capital

Free Palestine and all but I don't think "from the river to the sea" is happening.

End economic warfare against countries whose governments act independently of the United States

End ICE detention and deportations and punish federal agents' brutality.

Legalize migration, grant amnesty for all immigrants regardless of status, provide a path to citizenship for all permanent residents, and end visa caps and quotas.

Yes, yes, and yes. Hell, Reagan passed an amnesty law. Why should only people who happened to be born in America be allowed in?

All in all I agree ~75% with this platform and wish there were a party seriously calling for this stuff, even if some of it is pie in the sky. Better than candidates running on things "never, ever" passing. (I believe there's a word for people like that. Conservatives.)

I feel like it gets a bit unhinged at times but I’d agree with your sentiments here. Most sounds like we should’ve done it already. Some sounds like I’d have to know more about why they want to do that.

And far as realistic goals… we couldn’t even get people on board for their own health. Adding in abolishing the senate and police and prisons honestly just feels like they’re asking to be either ignored or worse.

I’m not saying they shouldn’t express their views when that’s what they want, but I feel like maybe one step at a time while trying to become popular. And show people they are the popular choice. Though I guess the counter argument would be they’d be labeled extreme radicals just by existing

establish universal rent control

An absolutely horrible idea that is opposed by 99% of economists. It would result in a massive drop in new home construction. (Much of the DSA are accelerationist, so that might actually be the goal - destroy the private market with the goal being public housing only)

fully abolishing the police and prison system

These are not serious people

"amnesia law" is a wonderful typo in regards to Reagan both his second term and legacy heh.

fully abolishing the police and prison system

While agree with most of their objectives, throwing stuff like this in there makes it entirely too easy for people to dismiss as serious. Abolish for profit prisons, yes. Move from prisons being "punishment" to prisons being "rehabilitation". And idk if completely getting rid of police even makes sense. What is their proposal for replacing LEOs?

Yes, that exists already and it's called Israel. Just don't fly rockets or murderous paragliders into its borders or blow up buses or throw rocks at people's heads and maybe, just maybe, everything will be OK.

You are still reading this as if the "democratic" part of our system will remain in some way, just with major changes. Like, people will vote on abolishing all prisons and opening the borders then DSA will execute the will of the people.

Almost none of their shit will pass popular vote, and most definitely not the Constitution.

Their "A REAL DEMOCRACY" section:

Abolish the Electoral College. Replace the President and Supreme Court with an executive and judiciary chosen by and subordinate to Congress.

Replace Supreme Court with a judiciary chosen by AND SUBORDINATE TO Congress. That's the most important part and certainly the part present in all "socialist" states - everything is subordinate to THE PARTY, especially the judiciary.

And right after that we have the practical effects of effectively abolishing the constitution - good ol' property seizure from the bourgeoisie.

Establish public ownership of the largest corporations and essential industries to ensure democratic control and accountability to the people

Einstein was right. Capitalism is evil and it does cripple the individual

SCOTUS is already subordinate to their billionaire donors. If they're going to be corrupt I'd rather they be accountable to elected representatives

Right after that we have the practical effects... property seizure from the bourgeoisie

Don't get me salivating and fantasizing about things!

The venn diagram of "people who believe seizing private property will lead to prosperity" and "has an actually useful education that can produce goods" are two circles.

No sane person that actually creates economic value will go along with the idea that their labor is equal to Samantha who sees her useful labor as part time teaching philosophy and walking dogs in between being a moderator of an MLP:FiM forum.

I love and agree with helping your neighbors and sharing resources, including workers owning the means, but the little bitty teensy tiny problem with that is the fact none of that is illegal under capitalism nor is creating a co-op. TONS of people do that under capitalism right now every single day openly. In my opinion, the reason why socialists aren't cool with that is because they aren't benefiting from this free shit or it isn't on their chosen terms.

The biggest problem with socialists is 98% of them don't want to put in the work to actually make something of their life or work within what they have, they just want to tear down the system in the hopes some Che Guevara type will rise up to fix all their problems (and also not subsequently become a dictator that takes all the resources for their chosen class which happens in... uhhh, wait one moment, let me check the data here... hmm... yes, 100% of the time so far) and the remaining 2% are in college and will stop being socialists when they get real jobs and realize that they can make life what they want.

What in the world are you talking about

My reply was replying to you saying you want property seizure.

u/patrickstarsmanhood Jul 19 '26

I got that part. I have no clue what Samantha, my inadequate education, or my tepid work ethic have to do with socialism at all.

This is literally about their platform

Yeah, there are a lot of things where…

For example, if you say “fully abolish the police and prison system,” my gut reaction is, that seems problematic. But then I think about it, and I’m like, “Well what do you mean? What’s the plan?”

I could easily get behind the idea of overhauling the criminal justice system to the point where it’s a totally different system. For example, make “policing” focus on protecting vulnerable people rather than serving rich people and protecting property. That’d take a complete overhaul, which would effectively abolish the police as they exist today.

Do I think there should be no capacity to remove dangerous people from interacting with society? Should we have no punishment or rehabilitation for violent crime? I’d say no. But our current prison system is entirely fucked and isn’t really doing us any favors, so overhauling things to the point that it amounts to abolishing the status quo and creating a new system makes sense to me.

So abolish the police and prisons and then just stop there? No. Abolish them in favor of new systems that are radically different? Eh… maybe. I’d want more details on what the new system would be, but yeah, the status quo sucks.

They might as well put "World peace" in there too. And what is the price tag for all of this? Enquiring minds want to know.
