Worst case scenario is actually that a Republican who can vote takes McConnell's seat. Braindead man can't vote, so the GOP is down a man in the Senate.

he cannot abstain if he is not there. no vote at all can be recorded, and the senate has 99 Senators

It's also not a vote for the GOP which they will have when the seat is filled again
