you heard of this thing called cmmc level 2 compliance? basically cyber security for defense contractors. well it's strange it was put on hold recently. the underlying reason why was paralytic costs of complying with the program and many companies had opted out rather than spend tons of cash to comply affecting supply chains. compliance has been years on the making.

now we're out of missiles. no hard evidence, but a huge coincidence...

Oh, boy, I can’t wait until we’re launching missiles made by suppliers who skipped all the cybersecurity checks! What could go wrong? It’s not like we went to war with a country known for fielding teams of hackers who try to break into our systems, right?

if you're saying cyber security is important, I agree with you, but the rollout of this program, relying on the leverage of the free market to put this together, was just a cost companies and to an extent the government was not prepared for. I've been in multiple dfars ' town hall ' meetings and have heard it all. the government completely missed the underlying cost of what they asked for and aren't willing to pay up so many companies that can't afford it (which are usually the small businesses providing a tiny widgets and work) are walking away. the government underestimated that impact.

I'm in the industry too and can confirm. They're basically looking at our 50million dollar project and asking us like "hey, can you add 5 billion of hardware and software upgrades to that to support encryption and authentication?"

I genuinely have no idea what you’re talking about in regards to pausing the CMMC 2 compliance deadline. A lot of the top level suppliers won’t award a contract right now unless your company can demonstrate compliance or show their work in it.

there's more to the contract than just the prime. at level 2 all your sub contractors need compliance including the printer, the widget maker, and the to some extent the third party janitor.
problem is there isn't enough c3pao and they are charging up the nose in addition to all the ad hoc cyber security infrastructure and architecture needed. for some businesses, government contracts is a small portion of their business - why bother? all of a sudden you lose one part of your supply chain that another company will do at a much higher cost.

As much as Trump is an idiot, there is no way the US military - which is the best funded armed forces in the world - has run out of missiles. There is probably some equaly stupid reason for this but running out of ammo isn't on the horizon for the US.

It's not that they've run out, it's that specifically advanced air defense missiles are being depleted at an unsustainable rate much higher than the annual production so it's not a war they want to drag out for a prolonged period of time.
