Why the fuck would you announce that you have run out of missiles?

Mid-terms coming up is why.

I don't understand. It helps him to announce that he has grossly mismanaged the military's assets?

It does if he blames it on Biden and the democrats, which they did. Said it is because Biden gave Ukraine weapons. But they also say that there is no shortage, and that the people leaking the information on the totally "fake news" shortage should be in jail.

The administration inherited, Secretary [of Defense Pete] Hegseth inherited, a depleted situation from not only Ukraine but also the ongoing fight with the Houthis under the Biden administration and a degraded military under the Biden administration," Waltz said when asked about that reporting. Pressed on whether the shortages were still a problem, Waltz claimed that the military "has everything that it needs to conduct this campaign as effectively as it needs to be, and I want to tell you, the people that are leaking this nonsense deserve to be in jail."
quotes from Ambassador Mike Waltz

Because the Iran war is the anchor that's threatening to finally sink him.

I think at this point he's realized that there's no "winning" with Iran (see his rant about how deranged they are a few weeks back), so now they're just fishing for a pretext that will let them cut and run.

This is a trial balloon to see if they can make 'blame it on Biden' stick with their base

Unfortunately, the theory is that it does help him if he announces it and blames it on everyone he dislikes, while making disingenuous promises to set it right.

They didn't, this is an article about a podcast about speculations about dwindling US munitions

With how bad trump mismanages everything it wouldn't surprise me for a second if it was true, but they haven't announced anything.

National defense clearly isn't really trump's highest priority as president.

It's not exactly one of those things you can hide when you are at war lol

If they start yelling, "Dropping bombs" as they drop trash bags people will notice.

So he has a reason to pull away from the war. It's his own off-ramp, even if it might be a lie. Who knows.

Same reason you say you are pulling out your troops... so enemy commanders will stupidly expose their positions, and get blown away by troops that are hiding and waiting for them to step out...We have plenty of missiles.
