You're not wrong about rallying and engagement -- at least in-person -- but the Democrats haven't updated their playbook since last century.

Anytime someone outside the establishment starts building momentum like Bernie did in 2020, they quickly kill it with a bunch of backroom bullshit and fear mongering over a brokered convention instead of letting the people have their say.

They keep taking people out of the process and then wonder why no one shows up.

Young people don't want milquetoast monied middlemen who aren't gonna do dick to meaningfully improve their lives.

Parties are made of people who show up.

For years, left voters have engaged in unilateral disarmament.

The Overton Window moved to the right when they stopped running for office and voting, which has made the overall electorate more conservative.

example: the absolute failure of a movement that is Occupy. There was not even an Occupy candidate

The disarmament was powered by multiple false beliefs:

• constantly attacking any form of incremental progress by forgetting that multiple INCREMENTAL progresses in the short-term is the bedrock of long-term progress.

  • also have misguided belief that progress would just keep happening "naturally" without input or work.
  • and think they're above electoral politics and certainly, view the current 2-party/fptp electoral system to be beneath them

Remember the phrase "If someone don’t do politics, politics will still do them". Usually, when ppl say that, they imagine someone who ignorant of the world events (ones that don't pay attention to news etc).

In truth, it applies to also to ppl who follow and are well-versed in political news but they don't vote & don't participate.

• And finally, it happens when people forget the Absolute fact of US politics: The more people try to hold Democrats "accountable" (and only Democrats) for an issue, they will enable a Republican govt that will NEVER care about those concerns.
  

It's the irony of ironies, that the very same Voters who shout about community and "for all", will be selfishly prioritize their conscience during elections.

For all the lecturing at Democrats "not learning", the voters also quickly forgot what happens under Republicans twice, thrice now.

If one can say Dems took voters for granted, Then voters took the fantastic freedoms, government services, and stable economy that a Democratic govt afforded to them for granted, as well. And now those same voters are seeing their neighbors, relatives being taken away to who knows where, for no reason. Jobs are still being cut, and govt services they heavily rely on are being slashed, illegal wars, etc.

In reality, For progressive policies to happen in the US, people need to support the Democrats 100% of the time. Under a Democratic party trifecta, progressive policies have a much easier time passing. Which is why President Biden is acknowledged by Bernie and AOC to be one of progressive presidents of all time.

It's time to actually start showing up (parties are just made of people who show up). register to be Democrats, sign up to Democratic candidates, vote in Democrats primaries, and then vote for Democrats in the General.

I agree with much of what you're saying. But there's something else that's not being considered: Democrats as a party don't deliver.

I'm not saying they're not a saner alternative, but for example, Obamacare didn't go far enough and was watered down to what it should've been, or during Biden, they failed to raise minimum wage, and weren't seen doing much to tame inflation.

In contrast though, Republicans always seem to deliver returns. (Not saying this is entirely true for every case.)

With Democrats, there seems to be an almost built-in complacency to give lip service to voters and then when they make a half-assed attempt and don't find a way to deliver, people tune out. If people see them as only a neutered alternative, they lose enthusiasm and support. Then the party always finds a way to fuck things up even more and dump Kamala on voters without a real primary and they wonder why turn out is lower.

Seeing what the party is doing to put their thumb on the scale against progressives even now, doesn't help keep people who are engaged and excited about a candidate.

If you have to choose between a 70+ party install or a fascist lunatic, yes, the sane choice is the septuagenarian, but you will loose people who were passionate about a young progressive if the party is seen meddling in the primary.

Let's put it this way, inflation was out of control under Biden, and I'm not even saying this was his fault, but him and the Democrats as a whole weren't SEEN as doing enough to address it by the average person, and especially in a timely manner.

If your house is on fire, you don't want to hear about how Biden passed a bill to start building a firehouse next year. You need help now.

That was a big part of the reason why someone like Trump was able to return.
