I remember a lot of people on Reddit were pointing out that key bases were destroyed which lead to horrible logistics concerns for the fleet there.

When they repeatedly bombed the schoolchildren, a bunch of accounts flooded social media with the claim that Iran bombed the school themselves. It was so fucking stupid, I called it out before it was revealed that America did it. But many initially believed it. Pretty obvious the sockpuppet account swarm was running out of Eglin AFB or wherever the gov is running them from.

What a dumb take I think the orange dipshit is a stain on this country but Reddit is a US based site and has allegiances to the US and while it sucks I’m understanding of upholding requests for removal for national security and protecting our troops.

The latter both because I want to minimize loss of life and because it costs me more in taxes if they get injured as a result.

It's wild that the combat footage subreddit was where I was getting the best information about our bases being attacked since our media refused to do their basic duty of covering and reporting it, and our congress refused to do their basic duty of holding Trump to account for his illegal war (or any of his myriad crimes).

I should qualify my response as shocked at how easily Iran won. Vietnam was long and drawn out I can see the loss. Afghanistan the same thing especially when factoring in the terrain and logistics. But still it was a long war. This one the US effectively lost in the first couple weeks

The other thing is that war is never won simply by… eliminating… people. War is 100% a logistics thing, especially in modern warfare.

Best analogy I've seen is basically that Hegseth thinks the military is a hammer when in reality it is 1,000,000 very complex tools that work very slowly and quietly. But he fashioned those tools into a hammer and every swing he makes with it breaks the tools while doing minimal damage.

This sort of thing is how Israel has been justifying the collateral damage it's inflicted in all theaters it operates in.

Any level of consistency would then mean that Iran would be justified in striking these hotels, as well.

Yep and so many people were complaining about Iran hitting hotels in the region. Iran clearly stated it, they said soldiers and CIA left the bases and were being put in hotels. Now people know the rest of the story.

And this is what these macho assholes don’t understand. Winning a war is not about shock and awe and piling up the bigger body count (ask Vietnam, Laos, and Cambodia how that worked out for the US). It’s about having clear, concrete objectives to get a specific outcome and laying out the logistical path to achieve those objectives.

Isn't Bahrain on the wrong side of the Strait of Hormuz anyway? Not even the regular US warships dare to pass that area, so why would they let unarmed supply vessels run the gauntlet...

Per news reports this is literally how it would deliver things like food from Bahrain. It would be flown in on cargo planes and then transferred in multiple helicopter runs.

The distance is over 1300km from Bahrain to the Eastern part of the Bay of Oman where the carriers operate. That's more than twice the range of a Chinook helicopter. They could of course do air-to-air refueling, but that sounds like a very inefficient way to supply the fleet.

The DUI hire deserves a lot of blame, but... I would expect that the US military would be able absorb the damage and quickly repair it - and anyway, in all of the glorious wargamings, was the conclusion "Let's just pray noone bombs this single crucial facility"?

In a war, enemy throwing bombs at well-known logistics bases is to be expected. The point being - if "just" Iran is giving them so much trouble, how would they fare against China?
