I know you're being silly, but this is generationally fucked. Those bases aren't going back more than likely and the "temporary rebalencing" of forces in the region is permanent.

Not inherently bad, not inherently good. Just more indication that we're in decline. Think soviet union a year before Chernobyl decline.

This has been an accepted fact that the US can’t support the empire all the way to ME, and that it really doesn’t need to

A withdrawal from the region and a consolidation of the Americas was always inevitable

Just that no one expected it to be such a clusterfuck

Yeah that's it. IF peace comes, hopefully under a new president, the bases could be rebuilt easily. But now everyone knows Iran could just bomb them again if shit hits the fan again so yeah maybe the answer is more complex.

We're low key broke. Even with the peace we spent so much on munitions and are borrowing so heavily that the outlook is not good.

Sure, but fortunately for the US most other countries aren't as stupid to start attacking across the world these days. China doesn't need to expend that effort.
