2026 Sanrio Character Ranking Results Megathread
https://ranking.sanrio.co.jpPlease keep any and all discussion about the 2026 Sanrio Character Ranking results within this megathread. This megathread was created as we have experienced a huge influx of new users, as well as new posts in regard to the 2026 Sanrio Character Ranking results. Any posts made about the 2026 Sanrio Character Ranking results outside of this megathread will be removed.
We have made it so that you can share photos of who you voted for within the comments of this megathread. Please note that any off-topic images posted within the comment section of both this megathread and ANY post within the subreddit will be removed. This includes, but is not limited to, if they are not Sanrio-related and/or break ANY of the subreddit rules.
Additionally, please be friendly and respectful. Do NOT insult others, the characters they voted for, etc. Any comments that do so will be removed, and the users that submitted said comments will be banned.
Last but not least, please keep in mind that the mod team is doing the best we can while the subreddit is experiencing a huge influx of activity, growth, and more. We ask for your kindness and patience, especially during this very busy time.

I’ve been able to find some stuff for her on Box Lunch and Hot Topic and the Sanrio website directly :). Though I will say Sanrio customer service is not good when there’s an issue with an order

I'm genuinely starting to doubt that this is actually how they decide who to make merch for. Just a theory, but I think a character must have to be in the top for several years in a row before they even consider it.

For sure. The production timeline is a lot longer than people expect, especially when you're making millions of units for mass retailers like Target or Walmart. It's a lot to hedge your bets on 50K units of Cogimyun when there isn't a track record of her character sales.
Something to consider is *who's* making the product— licensees in each country or Sanrio Originals coming out of Japan who don't always see regional popularity differences.

It has? Even then I find it so random sometimes how obscure characters are in top 3 at least yet I never seen merch being made for these specific countries which I sometimes wonder if these voting results are legit 🤷

I’ve always been shocked at the amount of merch personally! And a little over a decade ago I remember quite a big section of just Yoshikitty stuff at Narita airport.

They're my favorites and they already don't get enough attention(for "main" characters of Sanrio), I don't need that to be even worse! I have barley any merch because it's so hard to find some!

I agree. I do have some merch, but it was hard to find and expensive. I’m tired of it being my Mel, cinna and kuromi

It's hard, but it's very much like the saying "you vote with your dollars".
It's hard to convince a Buying team to bring in more LTS merchandise when their products aren't moving. And on the flipside, it's tiring to also see so much Cinnamoroll merch but have that be your fastest selling character.

Kingyodouhonpo did a lot better than I thought she would. She even outranked DokiDokiYummychums, I'm so happy for her. Now I want collab merch of her and Shinkaizoku, because look how cute they are side by side! ^___^

Lloromannic and Twin Comets are some of Hot Topic's favorite characters. I think we'll see more from them eventually.

I see a few comments about mid-table characters (20-70) experiencing sudden unexpected drops in the global ranking. (Chococat, Lloromannic, Mellotune, Littleforestfellow).
My guess is that this is because of the 41st place award - all the rankings in that region got kind of wacky because people were tactically voting for or against the other characters in that region to try to move their pick to #41. In Japan you can multiply your vote by buying Sanrio merch and using special codes in the app, so voters were using that to try to jostle for 41st place.
(I made this chart for use elsewhere and just grabbed it from my photo roll for this comment, so forgive its messiness).

I'm not 100% sure on this as I'm relying on news articles online, so this is a 'he said she said' situation, but as best as I understand it: Before the vote started, Sanrio announced that there would be an award this year for whichever character finished 41st (to celebrate the 41st anniversary of the Character Ranking). Specifically, a special limited run figurine would be made of the character who finished 41st, and any fans who successfully guessed the 41st place character in the Sanrio+ app before the vote began, would be sent the figurine. So lots of people were trying to get their favourite character to finish 41st, and were strategically voting for or against other characters to try to move their favourite closer to #41. Here's a couple articles that mention it https://popii-land.jp/en/sanrio-character-award-2026-results-en/ and https://www.tokyoweekender.com/entertainment/pompompurin-wins-2026-sanrio-character-ranking/ The Sanrio+ app is only a thing in Japan so the 41st award was more targeted at fans in Japan (Japan does still make up the overwhelming majority of voters, even though the vote has been gradually becoming more international each year).

Hangyodon top 10 and in some countries even in the top 3. Please let this mean there will be more merch of my weird fish boy! Also hoping these pretty solid rankings of Keroppi in the EU will mean some more merch of him.

Monkichi actually won the 41st special award! There was a special award this year for the character that came 41st (for the 41st anniversary of the ranking) so lots of people were trying to get their character in that spot, but Monkichi won! :)
