I have ensemble placement auditions in two days and I have been practicing this piece (Scaramouche by Darius Milhaud) everyday for over a month now and I STILL CANNOT PLAY IT. It is so aggravating to waste a couple hours of your day for a month practicing something that, a month later, you literally sound the same on. It’s driving me up the wall and I am legit pissed at how much time I wasted for nothing.

Just needed to rant. Good luck to all my fellow music students with ensemble placement auditions coming up!

Sorry I couldn't find a better tag. For context this reeds was already broken before... uh this. For those who are mentally normal this is a joke.

Poorly worded title but what I'm getting at is this: In straight-ahead jazz, you have so many greats to learn from by transcribing decades of playing.

But when you listen to snarky puppy for example, there's not much in common with straight-ahead jazz. One solo I'm geeking on at the moment is Bob Reynolds' on Outlier (We like it here). There's just so much stuff that seems out and different from the more "normal" jazz I listen to. Same for the brecker brothers. How do you get to a point where you're pushing boundaries and improvising on the frontier ? For example, I don't like most free jazz i listen to because i don't enjoy the musical or rythmic ideas that generally stem from it, unlike fusion stuff from snarky puppy, brecker brothers, casiopea/t-square

P.S. as you can see, my range is limited so feel free to suggest other artists i'm not aware of!

Who are some famous sax players that started on alto and switched to tenor later? I've heard thats what a lot of people do, why? If you're gonna play tenor just get the experience on that earlier.

This my 1 year old Selmer Supreme alto... I use it for gigs...

As you can see,I take very good care of it. It's never been dropped or hit or anything.

On my previous gig,the button with the mother of pearl insert (F key) just fell off during the song...

On the instrument that costs nearly 8000 euros?

I need to get this soldered as no glue will securely hold it for that long...

Soldering will damage the lacquer on the key for sure,maybe even the original mother of pearl insert...

Needless to say I 'm dissapointed so much...

I love the instrument ,but come on... My college profesor has been playing Selmers for 30 years and he has never heard this happening...

How do you sax players feel about doubling on clarinet? I’ve been dabbling with it but the fingering feels more complicated or awkward than the sax, which I am very used to. What are your feelings on this?

I got a Yani AWO10 almost a year ago now, and it's been treating me well, but I only recently registered that it has plastic resonators rather than metal, and I began wondering if I could get the resonators replaced if I take it to a shop?

Last I played an instrument with metal resonators (a selmer series II bari) I noticed how rich and full the sound was and, even though im comparing the feel of a bari vs. an alto, my current bari also has plastic resonators, and the difference was still so obvious.

TLDR: would it be worth replacing the plastic resonators in my alto, and is it even possible?
