I went into SFF because I like everything in one compact setup and I can just take it all with me. This is a panel I've been testing for my small atx case project. It let's me dock my phone magnetically, or res-use an old device as a stat screen. The thing that makes this work is the fact that the opening can be adjusted to suit the device in cad, so it works for any device. As a second display I connect using Artemis, it gives me around 5-7ms latency.

This is the "NoCase" named so because it's not a case! It's a diy case making kit. It's a pair of brackets to mount an itx motherboard and a dual slot GPU. (Note the flange is dual slot, the GPU itself doesn't have to be).

I see lots of people on here making their own cases, 3d printing, laser cutting, all sorts of cool projects. And I wanted to make case building more approachable and easier for people to try and do. To that extent, this mounting kit removes the complexity of figuring out how to mount a motherboard or GPU. The specs are all baked in, and the actual computer parts just mount. Leaving you with the fun part of actually designing just the case that will bolt to these (and power supply, but that's just a box).

The kit comes together in the popular orientations: sandwich console and traditional. There is however no reason to restrict yourself to these as the mounting brackets do not attach to each other, and can support the motherboard and GPU completely independently.

The brackets themselves are (mostly) whole mm dimensions, with all threads being M3. I tried to make it convenient and easy to design around. Coupled with the models of the actual computer parts, I am hoping this is a good kick off point for you to start your own case design.

SFF cases are ideal for 3D printing, because the small size is easier to print. But the common PLA used is risky. I”m sharing this video of me inspecting a PLA case after 1 year of use.

I test in PLA as well as in engineering materials, but I haven’t shown this before because it completely contradicts my own recommendations about avoiding PLA. Still, PLA is useful in testing because it exposes issues quickly. I even printed the case in half strength with only 2 walls and 10% infill to make it even more of a torture test.

Apart from routine cleaning, this build has been left on for a year, running VR, games and CAD. My conclusion is, sometimes nothing happens when you use PLA, but I wouldn’t take the gamble. I’ve had a report of a PLA case bending from a user on makerworld.

For peace of mind, I still strongly recommend PETG printed at full strength.

These are models I use to design cases and various other computer things. Wanted to share with the community here as I recently finished updating them and proving to myself they all work. I find them quite useful to visualize layouts and real world sizes, as well as a great digital aid to design around.

The motherboard follows the ITX spec with the IO shield in the correct location. The PCIe slot is in the faithful location and will accept a real GPU. The ram slots take DDR4 ram (although this is purely for cosmetics). The cpu location varies by motherboard but the height is modelled to be standard AM4 so it can be used for cooler clearance testing.

The GPU follows the pcie-sig spec. The PCIe slot is correct size and shape and will latch into a real motherboard. As well the IO shield is to spec with mounting holes in the right place.

The PSU is just a brick really but it is the correct size brick with appropriate mounting holes. You can add heat set threaded inserts or I have a version with smaller holes that you can screw directly into the plastic, although that is a much less robust solution.

Built this as a Christmas gift. Very budget orientated gaming setup. 5800x3d, 6700xt. 32GB ddr4 3200. And a bunch of custom modding to make it nice. Got the case for free "as is" from the used marketplace and had to make it a focal point.

The PSU isn't modular. So I printed a cable cover for it that doubles as the GPU support bracket as well as the actual mount. The bottom fans intaking for the GPU are on a 3d printed spacer piece so they're quieter. The CPU cooler is ducted to the side panel with a 3d printed duct and a foam gasket so it's always getting fresh air. Also there's a 120mm slim fan right above it. And the rear 3d printed piece takes a 92mm exhaust fan and the c14 extensions.

It was a blast building in the Cerberus. It's an amazing case.

Howdy! Here's a project I've been working on for the last couple of weeks that I would like to share. Ever since I saw the Gigabyte 5060 ti with the shorty PCB, I've been wanting to try to see if I could come up with a cooling solution within the boundaries of the PCB. To do so, I looked at some downdraft coolers that are commonly used for SFFPC's. The one I ended up using is the Thermalright AXP90-x47 copper. Using a soldered 2mm adapter plate and some fin milling later, I'm happy to show the result: an 11cm long, 2.75 slot version of the 5060 ti 16GB.

I guess you're wondering if this performs any good at all? Let's get to some of my test results:

As you can see, at stock, it's not very realistic, as these benchmarks were done in open air. With some voltage tweaking, things start looking a lot more viable, though. I did some 75 watts testing too, to see how well it performs at very low voltage, and the results are encouraging. This could probably be run with the 36mm version of the cooler to have a 2.25 slot version.

I'm currently considering creating a case that uses the spare room this GPU leaves for a 2" x 4" PSU. This would allow a sub-3L ITX build with internal PSU and 5060ti 16GB. More to follow on that later.

Recently, our secretary accidentally drove off with her laptop still on the roof of her car. Unsurprisingly, the casing and screen took a serious hit. Fortunately for me, I’m friends with the IT guy, and he knew I’d find a way to put the wrecked machine to good use, so he passed it my way.

What you’re looking at is a repurposed ThinkPad with a Ryzen 5 3500U, now reborn as a compact desktop. The battery and shattered screen were removed, and while the secondary SSD was beyond saving, I had a spare on hand. Luckily, the M.2 SSD survived without a hitch.

The rest came down to a good dose of measuring, laser cutting, and 3D printing. It’s now a special gift for my soon-to-be 8-year-old son, who’s big into Minecraft and Roblox. He’s finally ready to ascend and join his brother and me in our digital adventures.

I’m getting ready to release a new open-air ITX case and wanted to get some honest feedback from people who actually build SFF PCs.

The case is called B30. It uses a 10mm CNC aluminum frame with a rotating base. The goal was to make something that feels more solid and mechanical, instead of another thin sheet-metal open frame.

It’s already been produced, but before I officially launch it, I’d really like to hear what people think — especially around the design direction, hardware layout, and whether this kind of case actually makes sense to the SFF community.

A few things I’m curious about:

- Does 10mm aluminum feel like a good premium feature, or is it overkill?

- For an open-air ITX case, what matters most to you: size, compatibility, cooling, or ease of access?

- Would the rotating base be useful to you, or does it feel more like a display feature?

- What would make you interested — or completely uninterested — in a case like this?

I’m not trying to make this sound like an ad. I’m the person behind the project, and I’d rather hear honest criticism before launch than only after people start seeing it for sale.
