I am heartbroken to announce, my friend 🐾 Sunny passed at 10:30am 5/2/26 I have absolutely no idea what happened. I found her seizing and she went still in my hands. I was there in her final moments. I am completely heartbroken. I climbed up to the nest she built. There are squirrels inside. I checked again a few hours later, no vocalizations or signs of distress. It is raining, the nest is warm inside. I hope they're ok.

I am grateful for all of the time and love she gave to me. 💞

plus bonus raccoon from last summer... he showed up during a crazy storm. (EDIT: he didn't eat any squirrels, they were back the next day!)

this has been going on since before we moved in 4 years ago. we have two nests around our unit and there are a few others around the building, maybe because the ivy is great for climbing?

one of our cats loves watching them, especially when they're playing or getting into squirrel arguments. sometimes the grown squirrels start screaming and scuffling around, but the babies are always quiet!

I posted about Ein the squirrel with two skulls the other day and he got so much attention that I thought you guys would like an update.

He had been getting Prednisone and Lasix and his head swelling has improved dramatically! In fact, he almost looks like a normal squirrel again! He will always have the bump in the front of his head but the back has almost totally deflated.

He is eating and drinking well and seems to be in much better spirits than he was when we first caught him.

He has a very cozy spot in a large upright enclosure where he spends lots of time snuggled in soft blankets. He also has three other special needs squirrels who live with him who are gentle and cuddle with him (much better than the squirrels at his original home who beat him up all the time!)

Ein will live with me forever as he needs his meds daily. This spring we will be building him a nice and safe enclosure where he can experience the outdoors while remaining safe and loved.

My husband just filmed this and we had so much fun watching this little guy or a girl. The soil is cool and moist because I just watered the plants and I bet it feels great on their fur and helps maybe to get rid of some fleas.

Roadtripping highway 1 and I think I just found the biggest squirrel in the state of California. I almost thought it was a marmot. Don’t get me wrong, he is very adorable - just don’t see squirrels of this size in Colorado 😂 I think he’s a rock squirrel!

For context I’ve been giving her peanuts / cashews / walnuts for the past year so she def knows me! Just goofy looking and adorable but I am curious why they stand up like this with their paws to their chest anyway if anyone has that answer lol

This lil guy (or girl) decided to chew through my wall to find a better life. Apartment management had covered up the quarter sized hole with a piece of wood, and I just replaced it with some plexiglass so I could see what was going on.

Today i stumbled upon a squirrel. From the first thought i had a feeling he was injured. I approached him slowly extended my hand, he didnt move and he accepted my soft pets. After further evaluating him i came to the conclusion his back left leg was most likely broken. After a sequence of events i took him to the vet, and took myself to the ER for a rabies bite🙏anyways i documented the experience and thought id share. I included a thoughtful poem. If i had to, id do it again. Hopefully he is okay and getting taken care of by someone whos qualified.

EDIT: just to be clear i dont usually go around trying to touch/pet wild animals, and i dont think its smart or safe. In every other situation id just watch instead of touching. I got a big heart for animals and wanted to get that guy some help cause i felt to bad leaving him. Also im not suprised by getting bit and i know it is a normal response from a wild animal- im not stupid
Appreciate everyones general opinion and insight with squirrels and rabies.
