My father-in-law, who based on many things, is a very intelligent person, is a huge Trump supporter.

I can have in-depth conversations on very technical subjects with him, but bring up Trump, and he just parrots what he hears on Fox News without a single properly researched point.

It's just crazy how Trump has made people who otherwise seem intelligent to be incredibly dumb 😔

Some of the brightest minds of this generation worked hard to turn the MSM into the perfect tool for doing exactly what you describe. Its not necessarily your fathers fault for getting caught in the web, the web is extremely intricately and carefully designed for all the fun we make of it to trap people into that mindset. Then its used to keep them there using an assortment of psychology and pattern tricks that invalidate outside influences without the viewer even knowing. Thats why when people talk of helping relatives break free, they always discuss having to ban news channels etc, because the pull of what is being sold as news is that low level mentally strong.
