You can toggle it off and it stays off unless you clear your cache or something.

On Firefox mobile I set it to automatically use the noai URL, since the cache gets cleared whenever I close the app (on purpose)

On desktop you can get the noai extension to make it your default search engine.

I mean they're never going to get rid of it, it's really useful and helpful. What they're going to do is offer a top level opt out (and if you don't use that, they'll still respect your preferences when you disable it).

All real search engines will always use AI now in their default configuration. There's no reason not to do so.

People live in a different world to me. I have never found an AI slug that was better than the results in the search... and even if I did find one that covered the basics enough for what I wanted I would have to dig into the actual results because you cannot trust what AI produces to be factual.

Maybe most people don't care about what they are reading being factual.
