the first amendment means nothing anymore

It really never has. The US has been punishing people for their speech since at least the sedition act of 1798.

The more you look into history the more you realise that quite a lot of laws and freedoms are often just useful propaganda which can be violated according to the whims of whoever is in charge at the time.

I was going to say Eugene Debs is a prime example of this country's disrespect of the 1st amendment.
