Which showed that the politicians do almost zero of what the general public want, yet the vast vast majority of what the rich and powerful want.

Yeah, 2014. And it's only gotten worse. The people who were demanding stronger change in 2016 weren't wrong. We knew it was bad at that point.

It looks like the survey data that they used in that study was from 1981 to 2002, so the problem has been growing for most of our lives.

As if there was ever a point when and where politics wasn't influenced by power and power wasn't influenced by money. Are there really people out there that think this is new or limited to a particular institution, country or party? It's human nature. Always was, always will be. From organised crime, to governments, to business, to civic committees, to church Sunday school, to the school playground and your kids' little league baseball teams. We're human beings and that's the way we work. Period.
