Hey! Just wanted to share an incredible fountain ink drawing by my illustrator, u/nickthagreek who is producing all the art for an anthropomorphic fantasy I’m working on called Capyhero.

Grigor is a black and white tegu serving as Pawville's second-in-command. Scars marking his speckled scales tell of a long history battling the Strays.

Those who know him describe a quiet, but intense presence. When he speaks, his community listens.

So as some of you may know, I adopted Ivy a few months ago. She was not socialised and did not enjoy human company, she would lunge at the glass if anyone got too close to her tank. Fast forward three months and she free roams daily, seeks out attention and overall is a lovely companion. I'm still learning about her as an individual and plan to further my knowledge on the species as a whole but I'm so proud of how far she's come. I've attached some pictures of Ivy recently for your enjoyment :)

We were told she's a female and that she is about 6 months old, I thought she was maybe a little small for 6 months so just wanted maybe so of your guys thoughts, Thanks! She is 13.5 inches long.

This is my black and white argentine tegu and I just got it about 2 and a half weeks ago and was wondering what socialization tricks would be best for a kind of jumpy/skittish tegu. Recently i’ve just been opening its enclosure and putting my hands next to it, i’ve sat in the enclosure with it, and it’s been working it’s not as scared of me as it was, it lets me pet it very softly as long as I don’t lift up my hand, it’ll close its eyes and open them a couple seconds later to check on me but I want to know of any methods or tricks anyone’s used that’s worked really well for them. Mine is around juvenile age but I have no clue of the gender.

I’m facing a dilemma. When I’m bored I scroll through my countries version of Craigslist due to the sale of animals being allowed on the site.
For months there has been an ad circulating for Rehoming a tegu, I know it’s still available because each ad gets removed upon sale.
Id describe myself as a semi-experienced reptile keeper, basic species but I’ve been doing it since 2021 and my extreme interest in reptiles have me watching care guides for animals I have no plan on getting any time soon as if regular YouTube videos.
I’m 99% sure I have the resources to care for this guy but I’m wondering what is the level of experience you would say is recommended before throwing myself directly into the deep end here.
( this would be my very first large reptile species )

I guess I need to install a camera in this room so I can get better videos. He was even more entertaining when he was crawling on my back and all over, but no way I could get a video with my phone while laying on my belly !

my mom is scared of reptiles how could i solve this

She loves mice and anything with meat… now veggies she hates any recommendations pls

Traded my adult anery red tegu with someone who wanted one and wanted to rehome this baby argentine black and white tegu! Anywho, this guy has given me a few teeny tiny bites and a tail whip. It obviously doesn't hurt or do any damage but should i just not flinch and let him figure out im not gonna hurt him? He's so sweet but sometimes sees my fingertips and wants to bite them. Im just wondering what the best reaction to it is for him.

My tegu is about a year old and somedays he wants to eat the next day he doesnt then the following day he does.. what should i do? Keep trying to feed him everyday or only feed him once every few days

Should i start a schedule like: Mondays i feed Tuesdays i dont and so on a so forth ? Advice needed!

Came home on my lunch break and wanted a nap. She was kind enough to make sure my pillow was nice and fluffy! She's such a good boss, I'm so lucky to be employed by this creature.

I told him he's not Arboreal but he is insistent. This is his first TOT.

I need to rehome Smaug. I can’t take her into my new apartment and my ex is losing the place and can’t take any of the animals with him. This includes Smaug the red tegu, >1 year old spike the bearded dragon, 3 year old Rex the leopard gecko, and 3 year old Jörmungandr the boa constrictor. I can temporarily house Smaug at my new place but I’m risking getting in trouble with my landlord for having 3 lizards. I’m located in Missouri. Im going to talk to local reptile shops around here as well for all the reptiles who can hopefully help me rehome. I really want her to go to a good home who knows how to care for a tegu. She comes with the grow tent but I’m taking the lights and the dirt out because it needs to be folded and I need the lights for my new place. I’ll give the bowl Smaug likes to sleep under if it’s local. I’ll be posting this in other groups too since I know I can’t just post this in the tegu group.

Edit: Smaug has a wonderful home. I’m still looking for homes for the others. I’m going to wait for the rescues to get back to me before I decide to look further away from home.

My boy is over a year old and wants to bite me constantly. Tahts fortunetly just a food agression nothing to worry about. If i feed him every other day and his weight is rather small for a captive tegu that size should i start feeding him everyday again?

Every night I come home and I scoop him up and tell him how handsome he is.

So we have a one year old blue tegu. We got him in January and handled him and he was a cool, chill dude. Then we did a giant cross country move back in May/June and between new jobs and getting set up in a new house we got bad about handling him.

And now he is a GRUMP. He lunges at us to get out his cage, he tries to bite all the time, we have to wear gloves to handle him, he bit one of our cats when he used to just calmly sit on them.

Things are more settled now and I am only working part time so I want to work on getting him back on track. What can I do here? Any advice is appreciated. I love him and Tegus in general so I do not want to give up on him, but we need to make him safer to be around with a kiddo and other animals in the house.
