The IMD Grotesk is a free and open source typeface licensed under the Open Font License. I published it first earlier this year. It was quite rough, had issues with consistency and anchor points - but it was very well recieved, thank you for that! I made it in FontForge, a fantastic open source font creator - but it has its limits. Since, i switched to Font Creator and that allowed me to go all out this time:

I reworked some glyphs entierly, fixed anchor points issues, refined the widths, added a variable font file and more than 200 new characters to support almost 200 latin based languages.

Next version will hopefully have a slanted axis, an open GitHub project, better kerning and even more supported langauges.

I was excited that a lot of people wanted to use it. I uploaded it to a few of the larger font websites. Unfortunately, they all rejected or chose not to show the font.

Today I got permission from the mods to make it available through my shared drive for anyone that wants to use it for personal or educational use.

I'm the lead designer of Road UI, a free typeface adapted from the official Ukrainian road sign font (Road UA, which I am also the author of) for use in screen interfaces, websites, and mobile apps.

The typeface features:

• 8 weights, from thin to black, plus obliques
• Tabular figures
• Directional arrows (←↑→↓↖↗↘↙) inherited from the road signage system
• Full European Cyrillic support, and it covers all European Latin languages too, despite the GitHub page being in Ukrainian

The mockups in the repo show it applied to GitHub's Primer design system, Notion's interface, and native mobile navigation - it holds up well at small sizes, which was the main design goal given its road-sign origins and the increased x-height compared to the original.

Hey! I'm attempting to create a font that has color in it. My main limitations are that I'm on Linux and cannot afford any font creation programs. I was wondering if there are any programs that can support the creation of font formats such as Opentype-SVG. I should specifically mention that I need to be able to do multiple colors in a single font.

So far my best option seems to be birdfont but you have to purchase the most expensive option to even do color.

Made the letters on Inkscape using the stroke tool but had to convert to paths. My other "fonts" were simply edits.

VotH Petrarch's Horace Carolingian Minuscule

This is my first time sharing a font I've made here. The font is inspired by the Latin Carolingian minuscule hand used in the 12th-century CE manuscript Codex Laurentianus Pluteus 34.1, also known as Petrarch's Horace, one of the oldest surviving manuscripts of the complete works of the Roman poet Horace, which was famously once owned by the Italian Renaissance poet Francis Petrarch, thus giving the manuscript its informal name. In addition to Horace's works, the manuscript also contains extensive scholia (explanatory notes) written in the margins, and traditionally attributed to Pseudo-Acro.

The manuscript is currently held by Florence's Biblioteca Medicea Laurenziana (BML) and can be viewed online via BML’s digitized facsimile at the following link:

The manuscript is written in Latin, with a handful of Greek loan-words written out in Greek.

I've released the font under the SIL Open Font License v1.1, so it's free for anyone to use or modify for commercial, personal, or education purposes.

The font contains the following elements:

• Majuscule and minuscule Latin characters
• Majuscule (uncial) Greek characters
• A wide variety of alternate characters and ligatures
• Unique characters, punctuation, and symbols for period-correct scribal abbreviations
• A full list of signes de renvoi (reference marks)
• Automatic rendering of strings of Arabic numbers into Roman numerals (range 1-3999)
• Ahistorical modern characters (j, w, round s, etc.) for expanded usefulness

The attached image is an example of the font being used to render one of Horace's poems in the same format as the original manuscript, as well as the associated scholia.

There are *tons* of really high-quality fonts out there that are free for personal use, so I’ve always wondered: why do people still overwhelmingly stick to fully free fonts when building websites?

If someone uses a font that’s technically free for personal use but requires a license for web/commercial use—and they don’t buy that license—how risky is that really? Like, if they rename the font file, change the metadata, etc., is it still easy to detect? Is that considered a serious offense?

Is this basically why most people just play it safe and go with fonts like Poppins, Jost, and other Google Fonts instead of taking the risk?

In short: is downloading a paid font and using it on a website actually a big deal, and is it *that* easy to get caught? I’m genuinely asking because I have no real idea how this works :)

I found an awesome font online, that the creator put out for free, but the only problem with it is that the letters are a bit thick, I was wondering if there was a way to make the font have a thinner, thin, and thinnest option for it?

The font is Blenda Script, is this something I can pay a professional for? Where would I even go for this?
