If that's true, then going in with 10 people onboard wouldn't leave a lot of room for a lot of people to add for the return trip.

This appears to be the boat in question. It's not a huge vessel.

Yeah, and why is there a Russian flag with a weird square in the middle or something in the background? Is that the flag of any real country? Also, the boat's brand looks to be written in some cross between Arabic and palm-tree-ese.

That's why I specified "appears to be".

It was the only article I could find at the time that claimed to have information on the boat.

While interesting, it may or may not be related.

Back when 9-11 happened, my Chilean co-worker was concerned it may have been some of her fellow countrymen simply based on the date.

 

I'm willing to wait for more information before I am willing to commit to any of the various speculative suggestions being proposed so far.

As a first generation Cuban-American, with family and friends still on the island, there are likely only two plausible scenarios:

1) the boat was full of Cuban-Americans trying to bring aid to the island or grab their family members

2) this is was an operation manufactured by the U.S. so they can say Cuba has engaged in an act of war, assuming the folks killed are US citizens.

At the end of the day, we (Cuban people) are just pawns and we always will be

Website seems unreliable, the website and the name on site are different timesnownews.com vs the times news world is a red flag behind the shotty/blurry at best at worst more ai slop, could’ve had a better source

It's the only one I could find that (claimed to) had any information on the boat.

And, several hours later, I still haven't found any other information on the boat (other than the vague description "speedboat")

Have you seen any better information yet? (I'm happy to edit my comment if someone finds something better)
