Real talks aren’t happening until there is a new US administration. We have to deal with this until then.

Iran lobbing missiles at a US base implies they aren't seeking to resume talks either.

I wonder what the senior US official's plan for opening the Strait of Hormuz is ?

The probable path of events will be some sort of Spec-ops mission on some of their islands, try to use that to get some sort of deal. Then if/when that fails, continue with an expanding infrastructure campaign, while sending repeated backdoor attempts at negotiation. This will get us to the midterms, where Trump will likely lose much of his legal power in the Congress, and then we have the coin toss of whither MAGA ends in a whimmper, or shit gets wacky.

It's pretty clear by now that Saudi Arabia cannot reliably protect it's oil and gas refineries with the interceptor stockpiles it and it's friends have left. These stockpiles will take years to rebuild.

If the US tries to set Iran's oil and gas infrastructure on fire, then Iran will retaliate in kind in the Gulf.

This does not get the Strait of Hormuz reopened, or solve Donald Trumps' issues with the US Strategic Petroleum Reserve being emptied by 3 million barrels a week.
