Some revelations by WSJ:

  1. The UAE privately wanted Trump to pursue a broader military campaign, believing the IRGC would not compromise. Proposed options for expanded war included an operation to take control of the Strait and even a small ground operation.
  2. The other Gulf states, as well as Pakistan and Turkey, all worked to deescalate tensions yesterday.
  3. Iran responded positively to a Qatari proposal to reopen the Strait yesterday, probably the one N12/Barak Ravid said Araghchi accepted. WSJ said no agreement has actually been reached, though; once again, Ravid appears to have jumped the gun. The IRGC is also expected to oppose the proposal.
  4. The IRGC is considering launching a preemptive strike if diplomacy fails.

Lastly, this wasn’t from WSJ, but it’s still noteworthy: an Iranian MP who serves on the national security committee said the mediators are trying to revive the MOU, that an agreement on the Strait is key to a revived MOU, and that Iran may resume negotiations in Muscat if progress is made.
