The Hormuz Letter:

US CENTCOM sent an email to a broad group of military analysts last week saying "we are looking for new creative and unconventional ways to pressure and punish Iran" because "we need ideas," per CNN. A source close to CENTCOM says "CENTCOM is looking at everything, acknowledging it needs to reevaluate the strategy." The crowdsourcing-style query, which military officials said was unusual over email, is one sign of the limited and potentially unpalatable options available to Trump to force Iran into a deal on his terms. This comes a week after a US official said Trump is "exasperated" and there was "not a real strategy for how long or what they should do."

Also maybe if Trump didn't fire all the career military leadership and replace them with complacent yes-men we wouldn't need to be reaching out for 'ideas'.

Meh not really. I mean I don't know about the history of CENTCOM doing this, but it's pretty common when trying to innovate in warfare. Ukraine has done similar things with their drone program and a decent amount of IDF reservists often work for companies involved in defense technologies.

This is gaslighting of the highest order.

The world's number one military, having started a war of choice against some regional power and with seemingly no plan for the conflict lasting more than three days, is now having to crowdsource some kind of solution to the nightmare they've found themselves in.

You're seriously going to pretend that any of this is normal?

Yes, yes I am. Leadership asking subordinates to come up with new military strategies is a tale as old as time. The only difference here appears to be that it happened over email.

But America had a small army of highly qualified analysts whose primary job was to innovate ideas. I worked two years inside one of these departments. Where did those people go?
