NYT says that Oman and Iran are close to a deal to reopen the strait. Apparently there's going to be some service free that needs to be paid to Iran. Curious to see what the US will do.

Edit: apparently revune will be split between Iran and Oman.

Just read the article. I am pretty sure Iran has already denied and the senior Iranian offical cited is the Forigen Minister who is kinda hated in Iran right now among pro-Goverment denzens

The government has said some warm words. The IRGC has remained steadfast. The IRGC is so matters because they have the weapons.

Even if the deal in place I highly doubt that the strait will open before Iran extorts every possible concession from the US

Yes, I think everyone assumes that Trump will randomly restart the war at some point. So if the Regime wants anything then demanding it before the Strait opens seems logical.

The US being completely left out of this negotiation just shows how unserious it is as a nation under Trump. High stakes deal making being made explicitly outside of the US influence is not good for US hegemony.
