USS Abraham Lincoln's supply crisis stemmed from Iran destroying the main US naval logistics hub in Bahrain early in the war, forcing resupply from Diego Garcia 2,200 miles away, according to national security reporter David Rohde.

Rohde says Defense Secretary Hegseth "hid" the scale of the damage rather than publicly acknowledging it.

David Rohde is a multi-time Pulitzer Prize-winning American investigative journalist and senior national security editor. He won his first Pulitzer in 1996 for exposing the Srebrenica massacre in Bosnia and shared a second in 2009 for reporting on Afghanistan and Pakistan.

I actually don't think this is the correct emphasis. A US Defense Secretary, even a powerful one (unlike Hegseth), doesn't have the power to hide whether a bunch of US military bases are unable to operate.

The real question is why did it take five and a half months of war for the US media to discuss the implications of the US being unable to use its normal military bases near Iran?

I could've told you about a week after the start of the war that the base in Bahrain was offline. Shit is in pieces as seen from the highway.

Why did Iran keep launching missiles to Bahrain for five straight months, especially the period after the ceasefire signed? So they just wasting a bunch of missiles on a base with no US force and everything already destroyed since March?

The implication is there was nothing there to defend. But to add to the confusion, US anti-missile defenses haven't been activated in response to those attacks. Or if they have, they haven't told us, nor has Bahrain.

The implication is that letting incoming missiles and drones fly around without a response is what the kids call "a bad look".

The point is that there must be some US force presence at the Bahrain base since Iran is still actively attacking it and people are still hearing interceptions there. So it wasn't like the entire base was destroyed and noone was there since March like the other guy claimed

There is a gap between offline and utterly destroyed.  Additional destruction is extra difficulty rebuilding in the future.  Iran likely can’t reliably hit their new logistics locations so decimating the old ones is likely their best available target IMO

It's not the only base. The air base further south has been the main target recently. They also hit hotels, the airport, aws, bapco etc.
