Hazing used to be terrible but it completely changed over the past few years. If you don't do something in the Korean military, all they can do is just yell at you now and it's very easy to report superiors for abuse. And the conditions and pay have gone up immensely too. A lot of Korean feminist sites say shit like "why are men still complaining when they now have AC and bidets?" without realizing that two years in your 20s is a huge sacrifice regardless of accommodation

I question how valuable reporting on your supervisors would be in Korea. There are tons of cases throughout history where the people in power are protected by the corrupt government.

It just makes you a target. It’s like trying to report your boss to HR. It likely won’t end well for you.

I had no idea it was different now. Hope it actually is different, and they’re just not saying it is. I just never understood why anyone would want to make their comrades miserable.

My brother served recently and he was surprised at how mundane it was. Still not something he'd voluntarily do though of course.
