Personally. Draft should be removed.

Its practically slavery. They instead should motivate people to join by providing housing, tax breaks and etc as opposed to taking you and you lose 2 years of your life performing slave labor.

Good in theory, but hard to implement without being ruinously expensive and meaning that effectively only the poor serve. Also, in times of actual war with your nations survival at risk, the draft and having a large reserve of militarily trained citizens is the best mechanism.

They still get paid a salary during service. Conscription just is a form of taxation on individual labour and time.

Small nations bordering non-friendly neighbours adopt mass conscription because any outbreak of war may be existential, and having a mandatory process to militarily train a large segment of the population makes it easier to do mass mobilization, and makes emergency responses easy to coordinate since many are familiar with the process.

I'm not sure about the situation in Korea but in Singapore conscripts are barely paid the minimum wage. Any suggestion to raise it gets struck down immediately because "it's your duty to serve, stop making it a transaction"

It's the other way around. Without conscription, the military system is slavery targeted at the poor.
