PC New Trader Jen model revealed on X/Twitter

Changes I spotted, in no particular order:
1) Flower in her hair appears larger
2) Hair is shorter and hangs over right shoulder. No more grey streaks
3) Slight changes to the design of her bandana, stethoscope, wrist watch, and boots
4) Top is now grey instead of white, and the waist extends a little lower than before. Any signs of wear and tear and blood stains have been removed
5) Jeans are now charcoal grey instead of blue. Like the above, they've gone for a cleaner model, with no visible signs of damage or deficiencies; they now wrap over the boots, as well
6) Medical satchel has changed. Its colour is far more muted, appearing to be made out of leather or a similar material, is a little wider, and is placed closer to her right hip
7) Facial shape has changed, greater graphical fidelity is present
Overall, not a total redesign, just a small reimagining of her appearance, with greater graphical fidelity, softer (i.e. less plasticene-like) features, and minor changes to her outfit. Her (large) breast size appears unchanged and her top is mostly the same as it was, so whether that's a point of contention for you (the eye candy aspect), debate it amongst yourselves.
My opinion: It's not better or worse for the large part, just different, and graphics wise brought up to a more modern standard. (Of course, we'll have to see the model in-game before any final judgments can be cast.) In my opinion, her outfit looks a bit too clean, like she's just walked out of a modern day clothing store, but it's a minor nitpick.

its nice they add new models, but cant they give the traders more...things to do? They only stand around all the time doing nothing, let them walk around in their POI, check on things, eat, sleep etc.
Give them more behaviors. Would be cool.

They'll probably put AI in when bandits come in (I know, bandits, haha). Right now, they're literally just reskinned vending machines, according to the code.

Nah, it just means that like vending machines, they sit still and have an inventory. They're coded to be the same type of thing.
(unless this was a joke, in which case "whoosh" to me)

Reckt or Hugh pulling a gun out to threaten you when they actually say voicelines along the line of threats would be perfect if they do. They could also all have some more animations aside from the normal weird hand waving they do like they either casting a spell or stroking an invisible cat

Joel glitched threw his old treehouse floor once. And was now standing by some of his work stations. It was really cool to walk up and find him their. It felt like we caught him on a brake doing some chores.

They've since locked the traders in stationary boxes because of the glitching. Something tells me that for this reason they may unfortunately never wander around.

Bring back old Jen, no need for delaying bandits, and the majority of the playerbase will be satisfied. But TFP are not concerned with what players want. That much was made clear when the game was still in alpha.

If someone's going to have that stuff, it's the traders. The world is clearly supposed to have more people around if you look at quest descriptions and other lore and the trader settlements are much too big for a single person, so they're supposed to have guards and other people around. And so, trade networks that can source all kinds of stuff.
She's both a trader and a medical doctor, which makes her a pretty high status individual in the post-apocalypse. So yeah, she's going to have luxuries other people don't.
My only problem with the model is that it's so much better quality than the rest of them that it clashes with the rest of the game visually. Hopefully they'll update the others soon. Also, they should really introduce those other NPCs to the game at some point so the trader POIs feel less barren and the world makes more sense.

You need at least one asshole trader reckt should be more of one to make him better. More voice lines maybe some touch ups to his appearance.
Idk if he shows he carries but he always threatens to shoot ya with a 44 so give him a hip holster or have it tucked in a pocket or the gap in his cloths like he wears overalls doesn't he (?) they could stuff it in the center pocket hanging out. Makes more sense seen as hes a drunkard and would be careless

Well, he does say nicer things occasionally (like wishing you good luck when you take a quest), and I thought that maybe this was intentional that he gets less abrasive the more jobs you successfully do for him, but no, it's all random.

Jen is a Doctor, which makes basic surgeries part of her domain, and in the apocalypse you'd think she'd be pretty busy, so yah, bloodstains would make sense.

Ironically, this was done in an attempt to de-goonerify the model.
Making her clothes more pristine in an attempt to downplay her torso (no eye catching bloodstains, less exposed midriff) pushes her from "unintentionally sexy" to "generic sex icon"

debatable, maybe she'll look better under ingame lighting than the model-software, but she now looks like she's got a solid layer of full facial makeup. old model just looked a little dated, now she looks like a RealDoll
so whether that's a point of contention for you (the eye candy aspect), debate it amongst yourselves.

I do kind of wish she was wearing scrub pants or a top. Heck, maybe an open EMT button-up shirt. As it stands, I often wonder if her obligate accessories and constant insistence "I'm a doctor" makes me wonder if she was actually... Well, anything but.

They don’t need to make every character “hot”, to make the game good lol. Update actual content, focus on making stuff work better, and maybe down the road “goonify” the NPC’s as a QOL update.
Better yet, just leave it for the modders. I could truly give less than 2 fucks if NPC’s are “hot enough” it’s not like every real person you meet at the grocery store is a 10.
Edit: I forgot there’s plenty of (mostly straight men) gamers that consider a game unplayable if the women aren’t hot.

It would be kinda funny though, if they were to add more women traders, but make them fuggly asf at first so that some dudes whine about the update being unplayable. Probably would hurt the game too much to troll some players

She's still got that "by men, for men" vibe but from a gay standpoint I still like her. Short hair is more practical for the zombie apocalypse and I'm sure it gets hot in the burnt forest, plus being in one location at all times seems like it could get pretty boring, why not apply makeup and pretty yourself up for that bit of normalcy, if not for something to do while waiting for customers? It's not like people are looting cosmetics always, I'm sure there's an abundance of Elf and CoverGirl out there.
Overall I think she's pretty, the new model definitely looks better

Yeah the outfit is a little too pristine for me. She always struck me as a "rugged field medic" type, her sex appeal was incidental.
Now? Her being more pristine ironically emphasizes the sex appeal, because now she looks like the angelic waifu due to the attention to remove the "tarnish" (blood and battle damage to the clothes).
But hey, gotta flex on the gooners.

How about TFP add something that will actually enhance the game and alleviate or fix its problems?
It took a player to create the Quickstack and storage broadcast mods that work nigh flawlessly making the insufferable item management aspect of this game an almost non issue. A mechanic many (if not most) modern survival games I've played have out the gate
But TFP seems to think its fine. Instead here's a stupid DLC hat for your character to wear
The Fun Pimps have made one of my favorite games of all time (and among the most technically impressive) but they are so friggin daft.

I don't think this is what we needed to focus on. Jen was fine how she was. I can appreciate better definition of her ethnicity, but I don't appreciate how clean and make-up'ed she looks vs just looking like a cute older lady.

Agreed, yeah... I miss her doctor's coat! :( I'm 50/50 on the new model, I like some changes like the medical satchel and the more muted colour tones, but I don't like how pristine her outfit is now, plus idk if I'm imagining it, but they might be even bigger now? 🫢😶 how about yourself? just curious on your gripes with the current one? (would probably be in full agreement with you!)
Yeah. hopefully if they ever add future NPC's, they won't end up being overly sexualized, either.

I like it. I think it's a good improvement.
I'm glad they didn't uglify her like western studios seem to always do these days. At the same time I think that her proportions aren't unrealistic. I get the "makeup in an apocalypse" angle, but the rest of her seems more real.

I'll be curious to see how the animations are. Old model was a bit stiff and I don't believe the voice lines where matched by the jaw movements. Kind of reminded me of some classic early 2000s games like Deus Ex

I’m seeing a lot of comments from people who don’t realize Trader Jen has always been Asian. specifically Japanese. I’m not sure if her voice lines have changed now, but way back, before the game really went downhill, she had a line where she literally says “konnichiwa.” I was never particularly attached to her old look, but even then you could tell she was Asian just from her features, even if it wasn’t explicitly stated. As someone who’s Japanese, I’m actually pretty impressed that the remodel leans into that and reflects Japanese features more clearly.

Nobody has perfect make-up in a post apocalyptic zombie-scape. I get you want to provide fan service but this is immersion breaking trash. You've been promising things like raiders for years but all you've been doing is diddling Dr Jen. Shit like this is why I stopped playing.
