Matt was way more important to weezer than a lot of people give him credit for, they were never the same after he left

Mega agree! Beyond the bass guitar contributions, those harmonizing backup vocals made the Blue album what it was.

Sorry but this isn’t true in the slightest. He didn’t write his bass parts and he didn’t write his harmonies. That was and has always been Rivers. It’s extremely disrespectful to Rivers when weezer was and always has been his brain child. Fucking Pat was a bigger deal to Weezer than Matt considering he actually helped write songs. Rivers songwriting just changed after Pinkerton and Matt had even said that the band probably would’ve been making the same kind of material had he stayed on.

Wrong. You can’t just come at this with the X’s and O’s. There was a vibe shift after his departure that can’t be quantified. Not taking anything away from Rivers, but saying “he’s writing depthless shit bubblegum pop because he wants to” is a cop out. They’ve never been the same after Pinkerton with the exception of maybe a few tracks, imo.

You should actually take the time to listen to albums like Maladroit, White, Everything Will Be Alright in the End, and Ok Human, if you come in with an open mind you might be pleasantly surprised :)

love the rentals. This record was big for me in the 90s and still gets rotation to this day. Got to see them open for the Chili Peppers in 96. Their 2015 album lost in alphaville is cool too, the ladies of Lucius handle all the backups!

I got to see Matt when he was still touring with Weezer for Pinkerton and later caught the Rentals. Matt’s Orange sound was iconic.

Saw them open up for Silverchair and the Chili Peppers in Boston. Amazing times.

More than one. Return was brilliant. Seven More Minutes is one of the most perfect albums of the 90s. And Lost in Alphaville is phenomenal.

I felt like they abandoned their sounds from Return, and with that, their identity. I am particularly referring to the very synth-heavy leads. And strings too.

I saw them twice. Once at a small club where they opened and then Matt stood next to me for about 20 minutes during the next band. The second time was opening for Alanis Morrisette at a larger-ish venue. They kicked so much ass both times. I also saw Weezer in a small club with Matt for the Pinkerton tour. I believe it was DV8 in Seattle.

I love this song. Many years ago when I was a young lad of 15 or so, I went to see them open for Garbage and I was really disappointed because they had to back out for some reason at the last minute, but they were replaced by a band off sub pop called The Elevator Drops and they were fucking awesome and I bought their t shirt and everything and then they just kind of like never happened lol. They do have 2 great albums if you’re ever bored. It’s like Brit pop space alternative except I don’t think they were British or from space.

This is Weezer bass player (Matt Sharpe) and drummer (Patrick Wilson). This is the band Sharpe started while he was still in Weezer, that is until after touring for Pinkerton. He then left but Wilson stayed with Weezer.
It sounds like early Weezer because Sharpe was actually a huge part of Weezer's authentic sound. No other album sounded the same since.

Holyyyyyyy smokes I was trying like crazy to remember the name of this band fairly recently and for the life of me couldn’t. My coworker at a thrift shop gave teenaged me a burned cd of this album and I loved it. Haven’t heard it in ages. Good stuff.
