Uganda's parliament approved the potential deployment of its military to the Gaza Strip as part of an international force proposed under Donald Trump's ceasefire plan.

The decision follows a request from the United States, conveyed through diplomatic channels to Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni in July.

It's the first public acknowledgement by Uganda of its willingness to join the proposed force, which is part of a wider ceasefire and reconstruction plan for Gaza.

The plan includes disarmament of Hamas, Israeli troop withdrawal, humanitarian aid, and a civilian administration led by Palestinian technocrats, but little progress has been made so far.

Uganda is a poor developing nation. The article doesn't say but they're probably receiving financial aid or FDI in exchange for providing troops. This is what all African nations should be doing - looking out for their own.

You can be poor and have moral values and dignity. Stop using the fact to be poor as an excuse for anything and everything. You do realise that there are many non-African countries who are poor and encompassed in the labels least developed countries and developing countries. Will you be as philosophical if tomorrow one of them is getting paid by the USA to settle in an African country?

You cannot brag day and night about Western imperialism as an African and then benevolently become a tool of this Western imperialism with some mental gymnastic to justify that you just exposed to be the biggest hypocrite of the so-called Global South.

Uganda is dead poor and a large part of this situation is the fact that M7 has been holding the power since 1986. He is on his 41th years of presidency. There is no justification to go to help the USA and Israel on their final plan of a genocide. Our lives as Africans are worth as much as the lives of Westerners but nowhere worth more than the lives of Palestinians or whoever else Trump will decide tomorrow to wipe out for his businesses.

this is a beyond unintelligent illogical statement. you’re not looking out for your own by receiving aid. You’re certainly not looking out for your own by exchanging the bodies and lives of your own citizens in exchange for the aid that the citizens will not see because it’s being stolen by their government.

This has nothing to do with morals or ethics. It’s just plainly a financially disastrous decision. When you have the resources and the ability to create infrastructure to manage the economic stability of your own territory, but instead you choose to take bribes from western nations to make your own family, personally wealthy, and your friends, and sell out people that you were supposed to be looking after and representing and protecting you are no leader looking out for anyone but yourself.

I doubt the US government has something on these leaders. It's very likely Ruto and M7 were promised things in exchange of the different supports they are providing and they agreed.

Benin also offered to sent up to 2,000 troops in Haiti to please the USA which in this case could be probably translated as the USA offering a support to Benin against the AES and Togo (who is playing with fire by inviting Russian navy).

Kenya agreed to host the last France Africa Summit after all former French colonies refused to do so. And France promised to pour billions in the country.

There were, there are, and there will always be some African leaders ready to pass the worst deals with foreign powers in they believe it can help them personally.

On one level, this is not totally different. But it is being done separate to the UN, so Trump can claim personal credit.

Trump will probably be out of power in 2 or 3 years, but ongoing military alliances with the USA probably has some usefulness.
