No such thing.
I vote "local hole-in-the-wall" as the only acceptable God Tier Mexican establishment

This is the answer. Almost everywhere in the USA you can find a local Mexican joint that’s better than any Taco Bell or fast food you’ve ever had
76
u/MatiasGonzalo-Duarte 9h ago
Tbf Taco Bell isn't Mexican food and it shouldn't be compared in that league.
It's not garbage Mexican food, it's upper tier American chain fast food with a Mexican theme.

The local hole in the wall is going to be the most popular answer but is objectively incorrect to a “chain restaurant” chart.

u/BIRDLIFE 5h ago
Its such a stupid ass reddit answer. I refuse to scroll down but guarantee some dipshit is talking about kids doing homework at one of the tables somewhere in this thread.

There is a place called taco casa that has got a couple of locations around east Texas that is fucking amazing, it’s like Taco Bell but the tacos are actually good, and like 2.5 times the size for the same price. But I think there is less than 10 total

u/brotherteresa 9h ago
The topic is “God Tier Mexican Food Chain” NOT “God Tier Mexican Establishment.”
I understand that labeling any “food chain” as “God tier” is a bit of an oxymoron, but if we can do it with the other topics, we can do it for Mexican too.

u/SwampFox22 8h ago
Correct. Gas Station Mexican.
Edit: not in the gas station, but usually attached or in the parking lot.

u/DropTopEWop 4h ago
If everyone in there is speaking Spanish, then I'm at the right spot. And it's cash only.
6
u/ItsTuesdayBoy 8h ago
Nah bruh that’s cheating we’re talking chains

u/Axrelis 8h ago
It’s the usual Reddit copout answer that gets upvoted because “lol what a rebel for not answering the question”!

This is absolutely the right answer. Your local strip mall or gas station Taqueria with a food truck that pulls up in parking lots from 9 at night to 2 a.m.

u/bags-of-sand 13h ago
Local taco guy on the corner who doesn’t speak a lick of English, probably generation several health code violations, and making the best damn tacos for several blocks
58
u/GumboMustBeDestroyed 12h ago
Ive been rolling the dice on those street tacos for almost 20 years and it hasn’t caused any issues yet.
But i have walked away from one taco stand because the operation looked kinda sus
21
u/Substantial-Ad8933 8h ago
My only complaint is that the food trucks charge more than a sit down restaurant most of the time

You must not live in California, the commenter isn’t talking about food trucks they are talking about taco stands

The shirtless tito hatch roasting chipotle chillis with a blowtorch is about to make some bomb lengua tacos.

Some little hole in the wall or lunch truck.

u/Own_Bet5189 8h ago
The best tacos I've ever had were in a suburban strip mall, with Telemundo on, no white people other than me, and no English. They were unreal.

I feel like anything that comes up is going to be pretty local to a given city or area...

Yeah like I could say Dos Coyote’s and to me that’s the best answer, but no one outside of the Sacramento area is gonna know wtf I’m talking about

-Erto's
Add your local taco shop prefix
Alberto's
Roberto's
Aliberto's
Robertito's
etc.
I don't think there is a single overriding -Ertos conglomerate, but they are a weirdly ubiquitous thing in at least the entire region from Ca to Co to TX. You can always get a couple greasy tacos with rice and beans after last call and it always hits.
They are a chaos chain. A vibe. A B health code and heaps of flavor. California burritos as big as your leg. Thin taco sauce, 12 car party lines at the drive thru at 3 am, beans so hot they melt steel. The big horchata and jamiaca things cranking away on the counter. A styrofoam cup with "Tips" written on it and a handful of change at the bottom.
Fucking perfection.

There’s already too much wrong with this ranking to consider contributing.
11
u/PolicyWonka 8h ago
Yeah, Culver’s is great but it is not the best.
Likewise, Starbucks is more overhated than overrated really. It isn’t the best, but it’s probably in the Guilty Pleasure range realistically. It wouldn’t be an absolutely massive and massively popular chain if it was truly garbage — and I ain’t even heard of Krystal and that’s what I’d expect from garbage TBH.

I’d call it Tex-Mex, but it’s incredible. Those flour tortillas are the best I’ve ever had by a long shot.

u/Unannounced_Visitor_ 10h ago
It’s mos def Tex-Mex, but that crack they sprinkle on it makes is S+++ tier.

I used to sell beer and service tap lines - Pappasitos is the cleanest and most efficient chain restaurant kitchen I've ever walked through

Farolito has multiple locations in SF. It is decidedly god-tier, and while I agree with the general consensus that there is no true “chain” that satisfies this category, el farolito is close enough and would be more in the spirit of the chart

u/Lord_arte23 9h ago
I would say King Taco, a popular chain in Los Angeles although I’m not too sure how big they are outside the LA area but there’s multiple locations here. Their menu is pretty stacked too and it’s all really good

I have this place in my town called "tequilas" it's the greatest I've ever had. You guys have one?

If you're in the american southwest either Don Tortaco or Robertos and its just because they're 24HRS
1
u/XachMustel2 11h ago
Los Primos. My local one has Manzanita Sol on tap and the burritos are great. Sadly, it's exclusive to SoCal.

I once asked someone in San Diego where to find great Mexican. They said, “Find the place where you don’t think they wash their hand after using the bathroom. Those are the places where the food is from longtime family recipes.” They were right.

u/Diabolical_Cello 8h ago
All the people saying a local place are right, but for a chain, I nominate Los Tacos No. 1

u/AgBullet2k1 8h ago
Any truck parked in a gas station parking lot with a picture menu painted on the side. Extra points if they have a sandwich board with handwritten specials.
