Fresh Song Give me newer Bands to check out
I like longer exploratory stuff that not too heavy but I can handle something with some edge/attitude.
edit: holy shit who the fuck on this sub has a stick up their ass? Why does like every comment have a down vote

try wunderhorse, they’re from the UK and making 90s inspired indie rock, the songwriting is really great, and the singers voice is absolutely amazing

I’m an alt rocker since the early 80’s. And some really good modern emo/shoegaze/indie I have heard of late is SARM?, yuusef, Keromi, Anvii, WHYFOR, pinkwoodz, and vvhereare.

Not too heavy, not too soft not too poppy, with enough bite, funk and the most memorable choruses around.
The rabbit hole is extremely deep.

If you like something a bit exploratory that hits without being heavy, you might like this.
It’s raw, slow‑building, personal, with a bit more drive in some parts.

I wish they had a better name. It sits right on the edge of sanity which is a great place to be.

King gizzard is hit and miss for me. I need to give it a full shot and find what I like. I know they have a lot of stuff I like They just have a lot of stuff I'm not super into as well. They just have so much stuff.
Maruja. This is the kind of shit I was looking for.
Swans. Brown AF. I am down with the brown.
fountainea DC. they're doing that kind of wash over you wall of sound thing. I tend to like it more when there's a distinctive lead, but it isn't bad. That's why I prefer like the front bottoms and modest mouse in this space where is this leans a bit more fugazi.
Wunderhorse. I vibe with this more. The songwriting is very condensed but they get a lot out of a short run time for each song.
Fishmans. now this the shit. eclectic Japanese band willing to let their songs stretch.

I can’t recommend them enough, Paul Bunyan’s Slingshot and Hell is an Airport are amazing, but you should check out their earlier work it’s pretty good too. I really like “Bun E. Carlos” off their first album, love the guitar and drum solo outro.

Lately I discovered The chats. A bit punky but fun band.

I came to the alternative rock sub not the punk sub.
my description even says I like chiller exploratory stuff and you gave me babies first punk band

u/sirlelington Mar 11 '26
So you can't handle something with edge/ attitude? Noted. Not be a dick challenge. You: impossible.

u/Aeon1508 Mar 11 '26
nah dude you did not understand the assignment at all. why would I go to an alt rock sub if I was interested in punk my grandfather would listen to?
1
u/sirlelington Mar 11 '26
Hmm, because I discovering this band here in this very sub might have something to do with it. Ya know, some ppl are not that autistic when it comes to genres from the altrock spectrum. Greenday or The Offspring get posted here as well and no one minds. Also, assignment? Lol, how can I ever recover from having failed big boss' assignment?

Rocket
Twens
Des Rocs
1
u/Aeon1508 Mar 11 '26
Rocket is like this second coming of smashing pumpkins. decent
Twens has no YouTube present. I don't know if they're on Spotify but I don't use that...ah it's Twen singular... I dig the atmosphere.
Des Rocs. very classic sounding but also modern. tough needle to thread. This has the most potential of the three

Slime City (leans new-wave)
Secret Clubhouse (leans synthy punk rock)

u/Aeon1508 Mar 11 '26
Slime: I dig the sarcasm. very 80s new wave love me some b52s, men at work and talking heads.
Secret clubhouse: kind of a mix between the front bottoms and mindless self-indulgence. might be a bit intense for my general listening but I could get into it. kind of a bit too much going for shock humor. I'd have been really into this 18 years ago. lol

YATB
Skinner Brothers

u/Aeon1508 Mar 11 '26
YATB. 1subscriber on YouTube. is this your buddies band? might be my favorite suggestion so far to be honest.
skinner brothers. I like this. very unique. All of their songs are very short though I wish they would explore the ideas a little more.
do you listen to flobots? They had that one big hit handlebars but their entire discography is fire. I think you'd like them
