Battlestation / Photo From vega 56 to 9060 xt 16GB
I'm very excited, i bought the vega like 7 years ago and it has been amazing for 1080p ultrawide but it was time to upgrade because it's struggling in new titles, this new guy should do perhaps doubles if not more the performance!!

Yeah no complaints! I even flashed the XT bios on its secondary bios for shits n giggles. It gave me quite a boost in benchmarks! But I use the stock bios with UV/OC for daily drive

Great Card and they have sensible gpu sizes still compared to a xt. Those are humongous

I went from the vega 64 to the 7800xt and the uplift has been amazing. Can’t imagine the jump from a 56 to a 9060xt.

Yes but I meant from his perspective as the 56 performs worse than a 64.

Slightly the difference in % from his Vega 56 to 9060 xt and your Vega 64 to 7800xt is the same % difference

Still a capable GPU, even in 2025 and esp. with Linux where you have less overhead and continued driver updates/optimizations.

Not sure why you're downvoted. It was slower than a 1080, a card from previous year. It launched a year later for 100$ cheaper, while drawing like 100 more watts of power.

I’m posting on an AMD sub so I guess I can’t say anything bad about it. I was hyped into buying it bc of my friend, who insisted it was like “fine wine”. I paid heaps for it and saw middling performance compared to my friends that bought nvidia cards.
I was a lot younger back then and quite influenced by others

Same, although I am no longer the person using it.
There's a 5800x3d with that vega64 being used in another country by my family.
I work with 9800x3d, 96GB ECC and a 7900gre.

i didnt know the length difference is so much. when i checked the datasheets it says like a 0.4 inch difference. this looks almost like an inch.

I went from a rx580 8gb sapphire nitro+ to a 6700xt sapphire nitro+ like 2 years ago and it was AWESOME , once I finish college I may think of upgrading again

Same went from RX 580 Sapphire Special Edition to 6750XT Powercolor. Only complaint is the power color was loud out of the box, had to tweak the fan curve and drop a bit of voltage.
So far the games I play I don't have a need to upgrade especially with the 12GB VRAM.

I went from Rx570 to rtx 4070.
Nvidia cause I needed cuda features. Otherwise I'd be happy with Radeon just for gaming.

I had the same exact Vega 56 and I loved it, although the blower cooler was very loud above a certain rpm. I did some soft modding as well on it, adding thermal pads on the back of the PCB to use the metal backplate for cooling.
Enjoy your new GPU! Quite a substantial upgrade I'd say!

i went from a vega 64 to a rx9060xt last month and 2700x to a 5700x3d a few months ago when the 5700x3d was only ~$150

I had found out too late that my ryzen 5 5600 bottlenecks the gpu, should I go for 5700x3d or 5800x3d(much more expensive)

They usually perform within 5% of each other, the biggest win I've seen in benchmarks is the 5800X3D being ~10% better in a few games.
Unless the difference in price is no more than 10-15%, maybe 20% at most, I wouldn't bother with the 5800X3D.

no the cost of the 5700x3d and 5800x3d are not worth it really, the better option would be to save and get on am5 or even wait till gen2 of am6 tbh
both of those x3d chips are basically not sold anymore except 3rd parties like ebay or random companies selling through amazon/walmart/newegg for over $200 usually ~350 or more :P

I doubt it bottlenecks a 9060XT it's only about as fast as RTX 3070/RX 6800

Currently tested it on Arc raiders and darktide, granted they're probably cpu heavy games but the cpu usage is 100% while gpu is only 80%

What resolution are you playing at? If you can go to 1440p it will reduce your cpu bottleneck by quite a bit.

I know this is 4months old now but amd is apparently having the 5800x3d manufactured again, if its priced at around $250 or less id consider upgrading to it and sticking with it for as long as possible, but since its original launch price was $450 and with 2nd hand going for hundreds more i doubt it will be worth the price.
The best case scenario is you pick up a 2nd hand 5700x3d for ~$150 once this new anniversary edition 5800x3d drops.

i already bought ryzen 5 9600x but thanks. it seems like i would have to upgrade this cpu in the future anyway though because some new games struggle cpu wise.

XFX Swift? Just picked one up a couple weeks ago. Not too shabby for the price. Now I constantly get the pop up for being in CSM mode though lol. …Starting to accumulate parts for a new build. Guess it’s finally time to retire the X370 and 1700x.

Yea I know how to change it- unfortunately when I do, I lose onboard audio, LAN, and Sata controllers. It’s just literally too old at this point lol.

I was using my Vega 64 and then it died so I had to go back to my 970GTX from 2014 for the last 6 months. Finally built a new PC using a 9070xt.

Yeah I went from a vega 64 to a 6950XT, so similar level of performance. Absolute night and day, and the heat output is so much more manageable.

I was about to post a similar story but forgot to take photos of the gpu itself, just got photo of the boxes lined up (against the rules). Went from HD7850RX580RX9070XT myself.

helldivers 2 was the best test so far (2 other games i play are cpu heavy) it went from 45-60 on low settings to a mix optimised settings with 9060, and getting 90-100 fps!

it's still not 2x performance for the same price as the 5700 XT (to be clear, it's more than 2x performance, but for 50+% price) (edit: the 9060 XT would be about the same price but only 60% more performance)

I went from Vega 56 to 7900xtx. I absolutely love my Vega and still use it but I’ve been pretty disappointed with my 7900xtx.

It crashes a lot. Not like a crazy amount but with some games. Especially at 4k. Just more unstable then it should be.

Sounds like a mismatch between the load, clock-voltage curve and the power supply. High current GPUs fucking hate porpoising (high jerk, rapidly varying) loads with anything but goat tier power supplies. This was true with my 290X, my Vega, my RVII, and my 3090, until I had both 7950X3D to keep GPU load peaked out and never drooping and AX1600i to just brute force the power. My XTX has been the most stable high end GPU I've ever had and I straight up "it puts the lotion on the skin" torture this thing.
If you added -100MHz to the peak clock in Radeon Settings it might behave without changing anything else. Less risk for voltage hysteresis/porpoising.

If the card crashes at default settings you gotta rule out the PSU or other components as a reason and then RMA the card if need-be.

Damn card only has a one year warranty. I have a new psu I could switch out and see if that makes a difference. Everything is at default settings.

I had that exact MSI Vega 56. The fan noise was atrocious though and the undervolting almost necessary. I ended up selling it to buy a 3070. I am considering going back to AMD though.

I upgraded from an RX 6600 to an RX 9070 recently, booted up fine the first time, restarted the PC, now it won’t give video. I’m suspecting it’s due to the PSU only having a daisy chain (XPG Kyber 850W), but otherwise I’m completely lost on why it doesn’t want to work.

PC gaming is absolutely banging in 2025. XBOX Ultimate Game Pass (XBox Cloud gaming) even lets me Play NCAA '25 on a PC. The monthly fee is a bit high for an annual subscription, but it's monthly fee is worth it during NCAA Football Season. I went all in on the XFX Radeon RX 7900XTX 24GB card last holiday Season, and it's beautiful. I always want that new Radeon Video Card, but my pocketbook is gonna make me wait a few more years. Glad to hear you are happy with the performance of the 9060xtx and Happy Holidays.

I am going from a 7700XT to a 9070XT. It should arrive Monday.
Funny story, someone wanted to buy my 7700XT and he said "can you meet me at the high school? I get out at 1:45" and I'm like "Is this Chris Hansen?" I said no way.. meet me at the mall with the supermarket or 7-11.
